Star India and Oxford University announces Media Self-Regulation workshop

Star India has announced that it will be hosting a unique two day workshop on, "Comparative Perspectives on Media Self-Regulation & Society' is being held on December 14th and 15th in New Delhi. The workshop is a joint initiative by India & University of Oxford.

Key speakers expected to address this workshop are Ambika Soni, Minister of Information & Broadcasting; Arvind Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; Justice J.S. Verma, Ex-Chief Justice of India; Noted academician, Professor Satish Deshpande; Anupam Kher, Former Chairperson, CBFC; Sunil Abraham, Centre for Internet and Society; Sevanti Ninan, Senior Columnist; Anuradha Prasad, Chairperson BAG Films and President, Association of Radio Operators of India; Prashant Bhushan, Senior Advocate; Siddharth Luthra, Senior Advocate; Johra Chatterjee, Member Secretary, National Commission for Women; G. Krishnan, Vice President, IBF and Narayan Rao, CEO, NDTV and Board Member, IBF.

Leading international researchers and experts in media regulation, Professor Monroe E. Price from the University of Pennsylvania; Jonathan Blake of Covington and Burling and Professor Wolfgang Shulz from the Hans Bredow Institute will also be a part of this Seminar.

The two-day workshop will explore international and comparative perspectives on media regulation as it affects current debates and the future role of information in society. This workshop will focus on issues around self- regulation in the broadcasting sector, but go beyond to consider larger questions of media and societal transformations. By examining how other countries have grappled with the complexities of self-regulation, India will be placed in a broader context.
