Star Sports launches dedicated Marathi channel

Maharashtra has a high affinity towards multiple sports, adding to the local cultural nuance - Star Sports, India’s leading sports broadcaster, launches a dedicated Marathi channel for sports fanatics that goes live on July 15th, 2019. The channel will offer multiple sporting events in Marathi, starting with the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League Season 7 starting July 20th. Providing live and non-live content Star Sports 1 Marathi will have on-board experts, commentators, players, building a strong and compelling offering for Maharashtrian speaking sports audiences. The channel launch is in-line with Star Sports continued endeavour to deepen regionalisation and offer the best of sports action customised as per every market, in their preferred language.

Maharashtra has witnessed a variety of talented and successful sportspersons emerge from the region including Hockey legends Sumit Nagpal, Dhanraj Pillai, and renowned cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri amongst others. The region has teams representing the state across popular global leagues including, IPL (Cricket), Pro Kabaddi League (Kabaddi), ISL (Football), UTT (Table Tennis), and PBL (Badminton). With a strong affinity for sport in the state, Star Sports 1 Marathi will amplify this by offering fans their favourite sports in their favourite language.

Providing live and non-live content, Star Sports 1 Marathi will have onboard, experts, commentators and players building a strong compelling offering for Marathi speaking sports audience. Viewers can look forward to seeing Marathi experts - Meghali Korgaonkar Mhaskar, Gautami Aroskar, Abhilasha Mhatre and commentators including Kunal Date, Prasanna Sant and Chaitanya Sant during the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League Season 7. Aside, to provide regional contextualization SS Marathi has created an opening show titled “Maharashtracha Nava Star” which will have segments of various indigenous sports played across the state namely Kushti, Malakham, Maradani Khel, Football, Handball and much more.

To create more buzz around the launch of Star Sports 1 Marathi, the broadcaster will also be launching a campaign – ‘Awaz Marathicha’ on 20th July. The campaign will not only announce the launch of the new channel but also celebrate kabaddi which is the state sport of Maharashtra.

Star Sports 1 Marathi will be available on leading DTH and Cable Operators all over Maharashtra as well as the rest of India. The channel has an MRP of Rs 13 on a la carte basis. The channel will be LIVE 15th July 2019 onwards. Star Sports 1 Marathi will be the sixth regional sports channel from Star India which also includes Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Tamil, Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star Sports 1 Kannada and Star Sports 1 Bangla.
