Star World Premiere HD’s shows sweep major awards platforms in 2016-17

English Entertainment channel Star World Premiere HD has won 160 nominations and 44 awards across award platforms in 2016-17. From winning the Emmys, to the Critics’ Choice Awards and now the Golden Globe Awards, the channel has raked up awards for most of its shows across genres – Drama, Mini-Series as well as Comedy. 

The star studded anthology series by Ryan Murphy‘The People v. O.J. Simpson’ not only won big at the Emmys across all categories – Best Limited Series, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and more – but also went on to bag maximum awards at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Sterling K Brown, who plays the role of real-life prosecutor Christopher Darden on the O.J. Simpson case, secured his first ever win at the Emmys when he snagged the Best Supporting Actor award while going up against fellow co-stars – Oscar-winner John Travolta and industry veteran David Schwimmer. Sarah Paulson accepted her third award for her role as Marcia Clarke on the series at the recently held Golden Globe Awards. 

‘Veep’ won its third consecutive award under the ‘Best Comedy Series’ category and fifth consecutive award for Julia Louis Dreyfus under the ‘Best Actress in a Comedy Series’ category at the Emmys. The show also received four nominations at the Critics’ Choice Awards and two nominations at the Golden Globes. 

‘Game of Thrones’ made history as the most awarded television series at the Emmys ever and was amply nominated at the Critics’ Choice Awards, snagging the award for Best Drama Series category. The show also earned two nominations at the Golden Globes this year under categories such as Best Drama Series and Best Actress in a Supporting Role. 

Jonathan Nolan’s ‘Westworld’ that was introduced to audiences in late 2016 garnered a lot of nominations across Critics’ Choice Awards as well as Golden Globes with Thandie Newton and Evan Rachel Wood bagging the Critics’ Choice Awards for their respective roles in the sci-fi series. 

Multi-starrer family drama, ‘This Is Us’ that premiered in late 2016 was also the highlight of the awards season with Mandy Moore and Chrissy Metz being nominated at the Golden Globe awards. The series was also nominated under the Best TV Drama category at both, the Golden Globe as well as the Critics’ Choice Awards. 

‘The Night Of’ was yet another hit with the jury at the Golden Globe as Riz Ahmed earned a nomination among the biggies of the industry – Bryan Cranston, John Turturro, Courtney B Vance and Tom Hiddleston. The series was also nominated under the Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. 

Comedy series ‘Silicon Valley’ secured its place as the Best Comedy Series at the Critics’ Choice Awards this year and other shows like ‘American Horror Story’, ‘Baskets’, ‘The Walking Dead’ and more that air on Star World Premiere HD also went on to win awards. 

The channel has now geared up its entertainment ante this year with the premiere of some of the most anticipated shows such as Nicole Kidman-Reese Witherspoon starrer ‘Big Little Lies’; Season 2 of Zach Galifianakis (‘The Hangover’ fame) starrer ‘Baskets’; mini-series ‘Shots Fired’; ‘Crashing’ directed by award-winner Judd Apatow; the penultimate Season 7 of ‘Game of Thrones’; second installment of Ryan Murphy’s award-winning, critically acclaimed anthology series ‘American Crime Story’ and more.
