Startups and ex-OYO employees connect on LinkedIn via content leads

On 17th January, Jasmit Singh, who heads enterprise sales at OYO put up a post on LinkedIn talking about the restructuring at OYO and how they are letting go of 2400 employees. Singh praised his colleagues, saying that they would be a perfect fit for any organisation that hired them. He ended with an appeal to recruiters to respond with any relevant openings in their organization.

The news of OYOY's downsizing created a big stir in the market which saw a spike in content being generated on social media platforms especially LinkedIn. A lot of ex-OYO employees put up posts requesting for jobs. Several recruiters in the start-up community uploaded creatives and posts specifically targetted at these people, letting them know about the opportunities in their organization. A post by Abhash Kumar, Head of Marketing, Springworks mentions that about 250,000 posts had been seen regarding ex-OYO employess with an engagement rate of over 10,000. While this seems to portray the empathy and unity in the start-up community, it really makes one wonder where were these recruiters all this while? Did it really take a market leader to downsize and let go of employees for these recruiters to wake up and grab the opportunity? There is also a possibility that HR consultancies might have issued an advisory against joining OYO. However the truth of the matter is, such scenarios aren’t uncommon in the start-up community but might be highlighted because it’s OYO people are talking about.

Here are a few posts put up by people around the conversation of OYO’s downsizing :
