Sun TV eyeing Bengali, Marathi markets as it looks for regional expansion

In keeping with its expansion plans in the regional space beyond South India, it is learnt that Sun TV Network is eyeing the Bengali and Marathi markets. The expansion is reportedly slated to take place in fiscal 2019. 

Sun TV Network currently operates TV channels across four languages – Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The group also airs FM radio stations across India and owns the SunRisers Hyderabad cricket franchise of the Indian Premier League. 

This apart, Sun TV is also reportedly planning to launch a second Tamil GEC. 

Sun TV’s subscription revenues for FY2018 continued to maintain a healthy growth, up 19 per cent at Rs 1,141.20 crore, as against Rs 961.41 crore for the previous year ended March 31, 2017. FY2018 consolidated revenues was up by 12 per cent at Rs 2,963.02 crore, as against Rs 2,645.72 crore in FY 2017.
