Sunny Splendor by Ostrich Mobility

India is home to one of the largest disabled population with around 2.7 Crore people (India Census 2011). India’s disabled population is more than the total population of Nepal, which is 46th largest country in terms of population. Out of the total disabled population in India, 54 Lakh people are suffering from physical disability. The State of Karnataka has over 13 Lakh disabled population out of which 21% of the people are physically disabled. Though the revised disability act ensures job for everyone, a survey reveals that around 70% of the disabled people in Karnataka are unemployed which comes to over 9 lakhs and many of them are below poverty line and have a family that is looking for their support.

​Project Sunny Splendor by Ostrich Mobility aims at addressing various challenges in the area of livelihood of Physically Disabled, challenges such as employability issue because of the severity of disability and lack of required skills or education, lack of suitable work environment, lack of Infrastructure, lack of Integration within solutions etc.

Sunny Splendor is a electric wheelchair modified into a petty shop for people with physical challenges, to become self-employed. As part of this project, all the aspects of self-employment have been integrated and a complete solution has been arrived at. This mobility equipment thus will be a boon to the people with physical disability for their daily mobility requirement and sustainability. This equipment runs on solar power and supports the greener planet. This is powered with battery to ensure the mobility even in the absence of sunlight.​ ​Overall, this project extends its benefits to a physically challenged, in his day-to-day living and to the society, by reducing the carbon footprint.

On World Disability Day (3rd December 2014), Ostrich Mobility tied up with Reva Mahindra who donated a Sunny Splendor on a pilot basis to enterprising physically challenged person who will now be self employed and make a start towards financial freedom.
