Your favorites from the industry: I love hanging out with hotel General Managers once the formalities are done with. They're always well travelled, great conversationalists, and up for a party!

TV show you love watching:  I always pick TV shows over movies. Right now, I'm watching Newsroom, Political Animals and Game of Thrones.

Favorite books / magazines:  Favorite authors include Salman Rushdie, Ann Beattie, AM Homes, and Jhumpa Lahiri. I read the New York Times every day, and the Economist, Time and Newsweek every week, and I love Vanity Fair, Scientific American, The New Yorker and New York magazine.

Food that you do not mind indulging in sinfully: All food! I'm a big foodie and life is too short to diet. My favorite food is Asian—Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese. And I think every hotel I've stayed with in India knows I'm a sucker for a good lamb biryani!

How do you unwind on weekends? My Saturday ritual is lunch with my family if I'm in Mumbai. But the perfect weekend is lying by a pool in a private villa and reading a book start-to-finish. Nowhere lets you do that better than Thailand.

Favorite getaway destinations: Thailand! It's quick, easy, affordable and luxurious. I love Rajasthan in the winter. The Jaipur Literature Festival is an annual trip for me. And quick trips to New York and Dubai every few months are essential.

Perfect happiness for you is..? That moment right at the start of a vacation, when it's all lying ahead of you!

Your greatest extravagance: Travel, of course! I love a grand hotel suite to come back to, wherever I go. And fresh flowers—wasteful, and yet, so utterly beautiful.

Left alone on an island, 3 things you would want to be with you? So long as this island has wifi, all I need is an iPad and credit card! | By Aanchal Kohli [aanchal(at)adgully.com]
