The new introductions that make KBC 9 a turbo-charged version

Season 9 of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) will premiere on August 28, 2017. With this, the popular game show makes a comeback after missing from the small screen for three years. ‘KBC’ will air Monday-Friday at 9.00 pm on Sony Entertainment Television and will once again have Amitabh Bachchan as the show’s host.

Produced by Big Synergy, ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 9’ is sponsored by Vivo, Jio, Ching’s, Datsun, Raymond, Axis Bank, Akash Tutorial, Big Bazar and Quick Heal. This year, the show received a record breaking registration of 19.8 million over 7 days.

‘KBC 9’ will be bursting with new lifelines, thrilling gamification and an array of technological advancements in a concisely packaged limited episode season. The hitherto ‘Phone-a-Friend’ lifeline will be revamped this season to Video-A-Friend. Additionally, an aptly titled new life-line ‘Jodidaar’ has been introduced – wherein the participant can bring along a partner to join him/her on the coveted hot seat. The game will be made more exciting with the introduction of a jackpot question for Rs 7 crore. This will be an all or nothing deal, where all the remaining lifelines of the contestants will terminate. The iconic live-sized cheques will be replaced with digital currency transferred directly into winner’s account via Axis Bank.

Taking the promise of celebrating the commoner and his/her exemplary contribution to the society, Amitabh Bachchan will invite real-life-heroes in special episodes. These individuals will not only be given an opportunity to play the game, but also be provided a platform to reach out to the country in support of their cause.

‘KBC 9’ will bring the game closer to the viewers by taking the engagement a notch higher. Jio subscribers can participate daily in the Ghar Baithe Jackpot Jeeto contest and stand a chance to win a Datsun redi-GO car every day. For the first time ever, Jio subscribers will have the opportunity to ‘Play Along’ with the on air game and match their knowledge with the contestants on the hot seat.

The viewers will get to reminisce the journey of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ on Indian television in a special ‘Curtain Raiser’ episode, which will be telecast on Sony Entertainment Television on August 25 at 9.00 pm.

Commenting on the show’s return, NP Singh, CEO, Sony Pictures Networks India, said, “’Kaun Banega Crorepati’ is a show that truly does go beyond the ordinary to touch the lives of people from all walks of life. This show has always exemplified attainment via the power of knowledge. Guided by insights, ‘KBC’ is back to Indian television in its 9th season in a new avatar that showcases some game-changing innovations.”

Danish Khan, EVP and Business Head at Sony Entertainment Television, added here, “One of the most relevant shows for India, Sony Entertainment Television is happy to present a fast-paced, thrilling, technologically upgraded Season 9 of ‘KBC’ with the most popular host in the television world, Mr Amitabh Bachchan.”

“The show is close to my heart,” said Bachchan, adding, “‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ celebrates the dreams and aspirations of the common man and their tryst with knowledge.”

Siddhartha Basu, Creative Producer, said, “The huge number of registrations for a crack at the hot seat is one pointer to the enormous anticipation for the show. Along with much-loved features of the classic format, viewers can look forward to expect the unexpected this season, a turbo-charged version, with novel features, engaging contestants, and vibrant conduct by the host who’s the most – Amitabh Bachchan.”

Speaking to Adgully on KBC’s return after three years, Ashish Golwalkar, Senior Creative Head, Sony Entertainment Television, explained, “We did a few seasons of ‘KBC’ on a constant basis till 2014. However, if everything comes back to back, then the fatigue level gets accelerated and that’s why we decided to give the show a break for a while and then return with renewed enthusiasm. Sony wanted to bring back ‘KBC’ last year, but owing to Mr Bachchan’s busy schedule we were unable to bring it at that time. We have also shortened Season 9 to only 30-35 episodes so that we can bring back ‘KBC’ every year.”

He further said that although the country has progressed a lot in past 17 years, the fundamental insight of the show hasn’t changed. “We are still continuing with the same set of ethos that we have followed earlier with ‘KBC’ and the audience will definitely love to watch it,” Golwalkar added.
