The rise and rise of skill-based gaming, but keep an eye on the RoI

Gaming has a universal recreational appeal for the people across all ages and socio-economic groups. Skill gaming industry has witnessed a paradigm shift with the evolution of 4G over the last few years and it is all set to become a major driving force of digital expansion given the high growth potential of the Gaming Industry in India. Many of the foreign entities are also exploring possibilities to set up their operations in India.

Over the last few years, it has really led a remarkable growth in revenue figures in the industry. Take the cards gaming industry, such as Rummy and Poker, it is expected to touch Rs 4,500 crore by end of the year. This is not including fantasy games or any other skill games. We have already seen some gaming unicorns like Dream11.

The first panel discussion on Day 1 of MOBEXX 2020 explored the ‘Rise of Skill based Gaming’, which included several gaming companies that could one day become unicorns themselves. The panellists included:

The panel discussed about the boom in the skill-based gaming industry, how players are simultaneously present on multiple platforms, as well as incentivising the gamers. The speakers also deliberated on the monetising opportunities, fantasy gaming apps tying up with e-commerce platforms, in-game advertising, acquiring new customers and much more.
