This Independence Day, take a walk down the Memory lane with CNN-News18

This year on 15^th August, India will mark 70 years of its independence from British rule. The country has taken huge strides towards taking its rightful place amongst the pantheon of great nations – a momentous journey that has been marked by historic milestones. And to mark this occasion, CNN-News18 will look at some of these defining moments in India’s history that have made the country what it is today. From a series on the partition to various shows focusing on the history and advancement of India in the fields of sports and cinema, the channel has put together an Independence Day treat for viewers.

Details of all the special shows are as follows:

Memoirs of Partition

A special 3 episode series that would showcase stories of people who suffered from partition and their memories of it. The show will feature personalities like Milkha Singh who will share their experience of the mass migration and will also include the memories of those like Zohra Sehgal, who are unfortunately no more. Along with this, the channel will also be reporting and speaking to ordinary Indians who made the journey from Pakistan to India and were amongst the first refugees who travelled to Independent India. The shows will be a mix of history, nostalgia and drama.

Timing: 11^th-13^th Aug @ 8:30 PM

Cinema Zindabad

A special one-hour show with Hindi cinema’s top directors like Rajkumar Hirani, Imtiaz Ali, Karan Johar, Madhur Bhandarkar amongst others, talking about the films that changed their lives.

India@70: The Game Changers  

Just ahead of the 70^th Independence Day, Cricket Expert Ayaz Memon and Former Indian Captain Kris Srikkanth will look back at the legacy of Indian Cricket. The duo will talk about the players that changed the cricketing landscape of the country, took the game to the next level and made India a cricketing superpower. The show will also look ahead to the future of Indian Cricket, upcoming players and things that can revolutionize the game in India.

INS Sindhudhvaj

The channel will be saluting the courage and commitment of underwater warriors who prowl the deep seas to keep India's maritime borders safe. CNN-News18’s Senior Editor, Shreya Dhoundial will be onboard the INS SINDHUDHVAJ, one of the 13 kilo class submarines that are currently deployed by the Indian Navy. The channel will look at how these men negotiate hidden dangers in high seas while keeping the enemy at bay.
