TikTok tests new ‘Link in bio’ feature in the US

TikTok has been experimenting with ways to monetise their audience on the app. The platform with a billion users has begun a limited test of a feature that will let users add links to their bios and posts, which can direct audiences to products or services. This feature can be seen on Instagram as well. A video of the service in action was posted by a marketer, Fabian Bern. The new feature allows audiences to purchase products featured in videos directly from the videos themselves.

Currently, the only way to make money on TikTok is to do brand deals off-platform. Influencers make their money from their audiences and with TikTok making the process easier, it is certain that those users are going to use and see TikTok differently.

The closest comparison of this can be done with Instagram. The Facebook-owned platform allows users to purchase products from influencers’ posts and stories. Instagram also originated the phrase “link in bio”.

TikTok has been making efforts to get into the game proactively with this test rolling out in the US. If making money via TikTok becomes super easy, it will definitely attract more users to the platform.
