TRAI holds discussion on tariffs

Recently TRAI held an open house discussion with the representatives of the Indian Broadcasting federation (IBF), DTH association, MSO Alliances, All India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF), Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI) and individual broadcasters.

TRAI held the discussion to determine the classification within the subscriber base and whether a different tariff structure should be followed amongst the varied subscriber categories.

Broadcasters were keen on imposing varied tariff structure while other representatives against the same. IBF President and Star India CEO emphasized the broadcasting sector regulator to guard the interests of the stakeholders and not the 5-star hotels.

Post the discussion, IBF also issued a statement where it stressed on the fact that under no conditions parallel can be drawn between five star hotels and domestic consumers.
