TRP Scam: Have blacklisted 3 channels for advertising, says Rajiv Bajaj

The reverberations of the TRP manipulation racket are being felt in India Inc. Industrialist Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, in a TV programme said that Bajaj Auto had blacklisted three channels for advertising as the company does not endorse toxicity and hate-mongering in the society.

This comes after Mumbai Police chief Param Bir Singh claimed to have busted a racket to manipulate TRPs and arrested two persons. As is known, TRP (television rating point) is a tool to judge which TV programmes and channels are viewed the most.

Bajaj affirmed that a strong brand is a foundation on which you build a strong business. “The purpose of a strong solid business is to contribute not only to the business itself, but to the society at large. At Bajaj, we are very clear that our brand would never be associated with anything that we feel there is reasonable doubt of being a source of toxicity in society. A company like Bajaj is not run by one person like me, we are a senior team who take calls on issues like technology, quality, productivity and also issues ranging from human resources, development to CSR. If a team can do all of that, it can surely also spot channels or newspapers that are toxic and spreading hate-mongering in the society. We cannot ever find it in ourselves to continue to be supportive of such mediums no matter what repercussions it may have on the business.”

Meanwhile, a BARC India spokesperson said, “As in all our previous cases of suspected panel homes intrusions, BARC India continues to follow its established vigilance and disciplinary guidelines...BARC India appreciates the efforts of the Mumbai Police and will provide the support asked of it. The body added that it remains “steadfastly true” to its purpose to accurately and faithfully report “what India watches”.
