TV Show Review | Expect the expected in Roadies X; Rated 3 Stars

Roadies has been a hugely popular series since its first season and no one needs a proof for it. The number that turns up for auditions year after year, very well aware of the format of the game, are only to be increased the next year with the twists and turns introduced in the current season. Roadies X will do exactly the same to the show.

Roadies X has seen a change in its format with contestants being divided into two teams, the New Roadies and the Ex-Roadies. Rannvijay and Raghu are pitted against each other through their allegiance to each team. Rannvijay sides up with the New Roadies and Raghu with the exes.  The fun is to see both the friends stand face to face in the game exchanging quick witted dialogues and preparing their team for the battle ahead.

The show flagged off its first episode from Kohima in Nagaland and we missed the spark of the new factor and the chilling scare of Raghu that his arrival marks in the contestants. The show although started with a roar, we found it fizzling out when it came to the twist and turns. The bigger and better with every season and expect the unexpected theme seems not to be in context in the first episode. The promising part is the tiff off between the contestants, for the exes as well as the new participants have been chosen keeping in mind the tough tasks ahead.

Rannvijay’s team might have won the first task but they too have revealed the individual heads that exists even in a team task. Despite a penalty of 20% the team went on to win by a margin of 1ml can clearly be called their sheer luck. But we cannot deny that Rannvijay definitely has a strong team which will be fun to watch out for and their strong co-ordination among them will work in their favor.

But there are too many ifs and buts and many hypothetical theories which are sure to be probed and exploited by Raghu to make the show more interesting. Manipulation and Politics has entered the scene and with its arrival things are sure to heat up. But we are hoping that the heat is just not turned on by rowdy behavior and abusive content, there will be better twists and turns to keep us hooked to the show throughout the season.

It seems that the Roadies and Ex-Roadies are putting in a lot of thought and taxing their brains to come up with the right answer for Raghu and Rannvijay’s strategy but alas it seems that the more they think the more they are away from the obvious reality. So in voting Roopali as the strong performer, the Ex- Roadies learnt that they have given away the much precious immunity to a not so deserving Roadie. Every move in the Roadies show that both the team will have to move forward with unanimity and consensus if they want to go ahead and be the winners. Play like a team to be a Roadie.

The theme of Battle for Glory has been kept intact by not allowing contestants to be voted on the basis of petty politics. So those voted out can still prove their mettle by showing their caliber in the tasks that gives them a second chance before they are ousted. So when Zahid and Mohit were pitted against each other for glory, it seemed to many an unfair fight. But despite Mohit winning the task Zahid was much respected for putting up a strong fight despite being at a disadvantage. Disadvantage is definitely a wrong word to use for has but then I can say it’s our limitation that restricts us to use such a word. Zahid may have been ousted but he performed and earned the respect of all the viewers sitting back at home and became and inspiration for his undying spirit and energy. He made his own team mates realize what a mistake it was on their part to vote out a strong performer like him. Kudos to Rannvijay and Raghu for bringing in Zahid and showing it to the youth the true spirit of living.

Here is hoping for a lot more interesting things on Roadies X that is new and never seen before. And definitely, more of inspiring performances which will give out lessons of life to many through this show. Till then let’s wait and watch.
