TV Show Review | KBC's emotional quotient connects with the audience

‘Aadaab, Aadar, Abhinandan, Abhaar’!! This is how the television audiences were welcomed on the eve of the weekend gone-by, by superstar Amitabh Bachchan in the new season of Kaun Banega Crorepati. One of the most popular game shows on the Indian television was all set to sweep the country one more time and this was very conveyed through the grand opening of the show.
The episode opened with the enigmatic voice of Big B reciting a special poem ‘Na Roop Kaam Aata Hai, Na Jhoot Kaam Aata Hai, Na Jaati kaam Aati Hai Na Baap Ka Naam Kaam Aata Hai, Sirf Gyann Hi Aapko Aapka Haq Dilata Hai’, that highlighted the power of knowledge.

A heart warming performance by the Shehensha himself on a rendition composed by Salim – Sulaiman Merchant of the celebrated song ‘Ekla Cholo Re’ along with top four Indian Idol 6 contestants and a special UV act choreographed by the ace Bollywood choreographer Remo D’Souza added the dash of excitement and grandeur to the first episode of the new season to set the hunt for the new crorepati!

While the mass appeal of the host cuts through all sections, an additional quotient, not intelligence quotient but emotional quotient has been added this season through the contestants personal detailed story through ‘Aapki Baat, Aapke Saath’. While it may be attractive to the Indian households, how far can a ‘game reality show’ go betting on E.Q instead of I.Q! While the set for the show remains the same as the previous seasons, the channel and the producers have worked well on the communication theme of the season ‘Sirf Gyann Hi Aapko Aapka Haq Dilata Hai’; the lines for the host and the background music have also been designed similarly. The first episode wrapped up with a melodious performance by Shillong Chamber Choir joined by the man himself, Amitabh Bachchan.

Team Adgully gives the opening episode of KBC season 6 a decent 3.5 stars out of 5! The show has been well received by the audiences as it’s that time when families get the brighter sides of their brains running. The prime-time weekend slot and the magic of Amitabh Bachchan would only work in favour of the show, sans the extra doze of emotional over-do! | By Ankita Tanna [ankita(at)adgully.com]
