TV Show Review | Kid's dedication in Dramebaaz make it worth watching: Rated 3 Stars

Today’s generation especially children are a store house of exceptional talent. They are bold, not camera shy and very forthcoming with their views. They do not hesitate to speak their mind.  They are bursting with enthusiasm to exhibit their hidden talents . With no dearth of television shows nowadays which encourage such kids , avenues are opening up for them whereby they get an opportunity to showcase their unique talents. After music and dance reality shows on television comes one more which this time round showcases acting talents.

‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’ was launched on Zee TV on 23rd February 2013 and aired in the 9 p.m slot. It is a talent hunt Indian reality television show which invites children between the ages of 5-12 years as the participants. The show is open to  exceptionally talented kids  with an innovative mind and who have an inclination to act. So if a child has a knack for acting then this is the right platform for them. The show also invites children who are proficient in elocution & speech, enacting jokes, dance drama performing spoofs, mimicry of famous personalities, who have a knack to imitate people , pantomime,  puppetry acts and any theatrical skill including soliloquy, thus giving children a unique opportunity. The show is produced by Essel Productions and was hosted by television actors Rithvik Dhanjani and Ragini Khanna and Bollywood actors Vivek Oberoi, Sonali Bendre and film director Anurag Basu were seen as the judges of the show.

The first announcement of this show was made at the recently held Zee Cine Awards 2013 in Mumbai. Zee TV had earlier launched shows with similar concepts in the past also like India's Best Cinestars Ki Khoj (2004) and Idea Zee Cinestars (2006-07) but they weren't meant for children.

Actor Vivek Oberoi, who has  entered TV with his first show "India's Biggest Dramebaaz" (IBD), says making his small screen debut with Zee TV's show is an emotional moment for him as his father had also made his television debut with the same channel. "For me, it was a really emotional thing because my dad (actor Suresh Oberoi) made his television debut with 'Dastaan' on Zee and now I am making my television debut with IBD on Zee," the 36-year-old said at the launch of the show. He was seen as a judge on the show along with actress Sonali Bendre and filmmaker Anurag Basu. The actor, who recently became a father, says he "accidentally" became part of the show.

The judges did their very best to encourage the little ones but not getting the “acting ka keeda” which seemed of prime importance to most seemed to be a let down for most of the kids .

There were definitely some very good performances. To name a few were Heet Bakadia from Chennai and Shruti Nigaade from Pune who stole the show in the opening episode. Though it was a fun and adventurous experience for them their sincerity was writ large on their innocent faces. It was also apparent how they felt the need to be appreciated by one and all.

It is their natural behaviour on stage which made them all the more endearing to audiences. Their frank revelations of personal experiences is what makes the show popular. Parents accompanying their children too were eager to show off their talents and hence caused an uncalled for distraction in the show.

Though the show started of on a very encouraging note with kids coming on to the stage very enthusiastically it later turned into a very emotional one with most of the participants seen crying and disappointed. So much so that it even made the parents shed tears.

But the dedication on the part of kids who were keen  to make it big and succeed  made the show entertaining and worth watching for one and all!

Adgully gives the show ‘India’s Biggest Dramebaaz’ 3 out of 5 stars.
