TV this week: Free fall for Sony; lands at #6 in Wk 34, TAM

Week 34 of TAM 2013 was certainly not a good week for Hindi General Entertainment channels since all the GEC’s lost eyeballs and ratings took a  nosedive this week except for SAB TV which has grabbed the No.4 spot with a score of 295,176 GVT’s (293,433) thus displacing Sony Entertainment from its original position. It is the first time that Sony Entertainment Television has lost viewership and slipped to the No. 6 spot. Star Plus, Colors and Zee continue to hold the top three positions in Week 34.

As per TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 34 (August 18 – August 24) for CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus has been able to retain its viewership and leads in No. 1 position due to an increased relative share despite a slight drop in its Gross TVT. The same trend is seen with Colors which too saw a drop in its GVTs.  Zee TV at No. 3 lost close to 38 million TVTs with a slight drop in its relative share.  Life OK continues to hold the No. 5 position.

Star Plus , despite a drop in Gross TVT this week has retained its leadership position with increased relative share . The channel has recorded a Gross TVT of 470 million and relative share of 21.42% (last week 490 million TVT with 20.91% relative share).

Colors at No. 2 has recorded Gross TVT of 436 million and relative share of 19.85% (last week 456 million TVT with 19.49% relative share).

Zee TV continuing in the no. 3 spot has recorded Gross TVT of 378 million and 17.21% of relative share. (Last week the channel had 416 million TVT with relative share of 17.74%)

SAB TV ratings have seen an upsurge thus bringing it to the No. 4 position by registering a score of 295 million Gross TVT and 13.45% relative share (last week 293 million TVT and 12.53% relative share).

Life OK at No.5 registered Gross TVT of 293.1 million against last week’s 303 million. The channel’s relative share was recorded at 13.36% this week against last week’s relative share of 12.96% .

Sony sliding down to No. 6 position for the first time, saw a slump in its Gross TVTs in Week 34. The channel recorded a Gross TVT of 292.6 million and 13.33% relative share (last week 349 million TVT with 14.92% of relative share).

Sahara One’s recorded 31 million TVT with 1.39% relative share (last week 34 million TVT and 1.47% relative share).

Coming to the ratings of different shows on the Hindi GECs , Diya aur Baati Hum on Star Plus saw a fall in its ratings and rated 9,483 TVTs (11,166). The other prime time show, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai too saw a slight fall taking its score to 7,124 TVTs (7,284). Pyar Ka Dard Hai recorded 6,482 TVTs (6,503) and Saathiya registered 5,374 TVTs (5,949). Junior Master Chef the new reality show on the channel lost viewership this week and rated 2,804 TVTs (4,277).

Colors' celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa has definitely grabbed eyeballs by generating 6,869 TVTs (5,826) on Saturday and 5,540 TVTs (5,047) on Sunday. Balika Vadhu registered 6,294 TVTs (6,276), Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon recorded 4,646 TVTs (4,304) and Uttaran scored 4,736 TVTs (4,839). A marginal rise was seen in the ratings of the comedy show Comedy Nights with Kapil which generated 6,988 TVTs (6,847).

DID Super Moms reality dance show on Zee TV notched up to recorded 5,664 TVTs (5,893) on Saturday and 5,635 TVTs (5,498) on Sunday. Its fictional offering Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se registered 4,435 TVTs (5,341), Qubool Hai ratings dipped to score 6,618 TVTs (7,435) and Pavitra Rishta generated 4,990 TVTs (4,959). Viewership of the historical show Jodha Akbar  dropped marginally to register a  score 5,896 TVTs (6,011).

Fourth placed, Sab's fiction show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah the fiction show on SAB TV is still the leader with 7,048 TVTs (7,070). Chidiya Ghar lost viewership and scored 3,069 TVTs (3,262). Lapataganj reported a rise thus registering 2,318 TVTs (1,941).

Most of the shows on Life OK saw a fall in their ratings this week. Top series Mahadev recorded  3,020 TVTs (3,426), Do Dil Ek Jaan recorded 1,554 TVTs (1,721), Savdhan India rated 2,526 TVTs (2,653), Shapath generated 3,330 TVTs (3,352) and the new entrant Gustakh Dil rated 1,238 TVTs (1,624).

Sony’s long running crime series, both CID and Crime Patrol saw a slight fall to score 5,061 TVTs (5,210) and 3,500 TVTs (3,815) respectively. Comedy Circus ke Ajoobe Mahabali on the other hand witnessed a rise with 3,071 TVTs (2,482). Very little difference is noticed in the ratings of the channel's historical show Maharana Pratap which managed to remain close to its last week's ratings and recorded 3,068 TVTs (3,028). Some of the fiction shows on the channel held on to their viewership while others dipped marginally during the week. Indian Idol Junior reported a dip in viewership on Saturday and reported 4,064 TVTs (4,529) while a surge was noticed in it’s ratings on Sunday when it reported 4,617 TVTs (4,279).

Sahara One continues to remain in the bottom scoring 30,527 TVTs (34,398).

In the movie channel's genre, Zee Cinema saw a fall, reporting 248,031 GVTs (252,322); same goes for Star Gold and Movies OK too both of which witnessed a fall with 207,543 GVTs (215,873) and 131,215 GVTs (137,781) respectively. But in contrast movie channel Max witnessed increase in viewership and recorded a score of 218,449 GVTs (213,437).
