TV this week: Star Plus, Colors, Sony are biggest gainers in Week 38

Week 38 of TAM 2013 was witness to two huge offerings from Star  Plus and Colors. The former launched their premium property, the mythological saga Mahabharat while reality show Bigg Boss 7, on Colors too did not fail to grab eyeballs at the onset of the new season. The opening episode of  Mahabharat on Star Plus fetched  8,445 TVTs and can be considered the highest rated weekday fiction show in the recent history of Indian television. The average ratings of the show recorded 6,356 TVTs in its opening week and thus contributed 58 million TVTs to the channel in Week 38.

Meanwhile the reality show Bigg Boss 7 on Colors recorded 7,711 TVTs on the premiere night and registered an average of 5,080 TVTs Monday through Saturday.

The fictionalized episode based on the Delhi Nirbhaya rape case on Crime Patrol helped Sony garner a score of 6,415 TVTs giving it the much required boost and has brought the Hindi GEC back to its original No. 4 position.

As per TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 38 (September 15 – September 21) for CS 4+, HSM markets, Colors with little improvement in its ratings has widened the gap with Star Plus, Zee TV is stable at No. 3 position. Life OK and Sony have been alternating positions since the last couple of weeks while SAB TV this week has taken the 6th position among the GECs.

Following are the detailed GVT’s of the respective channels:  Star Plus still at no. 1 witnessed increase in viewership due to the premiere of the eagerly awaited Mahabharat on the channel and reported 534590 GVTs (477,029). Colors at no.2 managed to notch up its score by garnering 479892 GVTs (463,869) . Zee TV continuing in the 3rd spot witnessed a surge in viewership and recorded 413,707 GVTs (398,993)  . At 4th spot Sony has regained its original position on the back of their show Crime Patrol and garnered 327,089 GVTs (292,852)  in week 38  thus once again bringing Life OK to the 5th position and a marginal dip was seen in the channel’s ratings as it recorded a score of 313138 GVTs (322,364).  SAB TV in 6th position with a dip in its ratings registered 289471 GVTs (312,053) in week 38 . Sahara One continues to be at the bottom of the list registering a score of 26495  GVTs (28749) .

Now coming to the various popular shows of the top Hindi GECs for Week 38 their ratings   are as follows:

The two most popular shows on Star Plus,  Diya aur Baati Hum and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai both saw a remarkable rise  in their ratings to record 9819  TVTs (8,803) and 6587 TVTs (6,144) respectively.  Pyar Ka Dard Hai recorded 7342 TVTs (6,930), Saathiya registered 6456  TVTs (6,002) and the epic series Mahabharata that launched last week on the channel has picked up well in it’s first week to record 6356 TVTs . Thus we can say that it has been a good week for the channel in terms of ratings of their varied shows.

Reality show Bigg Boss 7 which premiered on Colors this week garnered 5080 TVTs while long running series Balika Vadhu notched up points to record 6551 TVTs (6,278). Meanwhile with increased viewership Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon recorded 4990 TVTs (4,442) Uttaran recorded a score of 4140  TVTs (4,154) and comedy show Comedy Nights with Kapil garnered 7244 TVTs (7,215) thus indicating a rise in ratings in most of the shows on the channel

Zee TV’s  fictional series Qubool Hai  witnessed a rise to thus record 6340 TVTs (5,956). Pavitra Rishta ratings surged ahead and recorded 4733 TVTs (4,280) Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke too followed suit and scored 5035 TVTs (4643). The interesting track  on historical show Jodha Akbar has led to the series registering a score of 8025 TVTs (6,981). The drama series Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se has been unable to grab eyeballs and thus registered 4612 TVTs (5,047) while the ratings of its other  new offering Buddha dipped marginally to record 1537  TVTs (1,450) .

The long running crime series CID on Sony witnessed a plunge to record  5070 TVTs (5,391) while in contrast  Crime Patrol viewership saw a  commendable rise  to score  6415 TVTs (3,739) .  Historical show Maharana Pratap ratings rose marginally to generate  3266  TVTs (3,151) . Popular show KBC on the channel notched up this week to record 6134 TVTs (5925) and Comedy Circus garnered  3092 TVTs(3,409)  in Week 38.

Most shows on channel Life OK have seen increased viewership in Week 38. The channel’s  top series Mahadev has notched up its points and recorded 3588 TVTs (2,585) Do Dil Ek Jaan saw an increase to record 1801 TVTs (1666) . The other offerings on the channel, namely, Savdhan India rated 2300 TVTs (2,734) and Shapath viewership increased to garner  3988 TVTs (3,410).

Fiction show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on SAB TV remains the undisputed channel leader with 7276  TVTs (6,816) Both Chidiya Ghar and Lapataganj lost viewership this week and recorded 3045 TVTs (3430) and 2066 TVTs (2,347) respectively . Baalveer garnered 2,605 TVTs (2,057).

In the movie channel's genre: Zee Cinema saw a dip to register 187397 GVTs (191,359) ; Star Gold too witnessed a marginal drop to record 177,380 GVTs (182,350) while Movies OK saw a drop and rated 96047 GVTs (100,401) the new entrant among movie channels, &pictures has garnered 67480 GVTs(67,774) while Max witnessed increased viewership and recorded a  score of  210,021  GVTs (192,416) in week 38 of TAM, 2013.
