TV this week: Star Plus, Colors takes a quantum leap

The gross viewership of Star Plus and Colors have soared exceptionally adding 31 million and 34 million TVTs to their scores respectively in week 47. The unabated climb in viewership of their fiction properties has contributed to Star Plus stabilizing its position on the back of its primetime viewership which is at a 3 year high, while the world television premiere of Akshay Kumar starrer Boss on Colors helped the channel to surge ahead this week and cross the 500 million mark. Meanwhile Sony shows no signs of improvement as its TVT’s have tumbled further and the ratings of other channels indicate negligible difference from last week’s scores as per TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 47 (November 17 - November 23) for CS 4+, HSM markets.

GVT’s recorded by the Hindi GECs indicate the following scores this week: Star Plus which leads among the GECs has witnessed commendable ratings and garnered 560,497 GVTs (529,193). Colors in the 2nd position too garnered substantial points to record a score of 513,415 GVTs (479,010). Zee TV with marginal changes has recorded 433,447 GVTs (440,447) and continues to be in the 3rd spot. With a slight dip in viewership Life OK remains steady in 4th position with the channel registering a score of 335,013 GVTs (340,200). SAB TV which continues to be in the 5th spot with a decrease in its ratings has recorded 308,133 GVTs (315,637). Meanwhile Sony lost further in terms of viewership and the channel’s ratings took a noticeable dip to score 269,332 GVTs (297,801). Hence the channel sees no change and remains in the 6th position among the top 6 GECs in week 47 of TAM. Sahara One saw a drop in viewership and registered a score of 30,429 GVTs (35,749). The channel continues to remain at the bottom of the chart.
Following are the latest ratings of the most watched shows on the Hindi GECs:

The most popular show on Star Plus in the prime time slot, Diya aur Baati Hum registered 12,298 TVTs (11,223) and to this top running show on the channel goes the credit of becoming the highest ever rated show. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai too saw an increase as it registered 7,863 TVTs (7,335). Pyar Ka Dard Hai lost viewership as it registered 7,351 TVTs (7,774) while the most watched serial Saath Nibhana Saathiya saw a remarkable rise in its ratings as it recorded 8,290 TVTs (7,708). The epic series Mahabharata has gained viewership and garnered 6,835 TVTs (5,807)  and this week ratings of Saraswati Chandra notched up to register a score of 5,071 TVTs (4,803). Negligible change was seen in Nach Baliye Season 6 viewership as the show recorded 4,736 TVTs (4,741) in week 47.

The reality shows on Colors have undoubtedly helped the channel maintain its position in the GEC list. The increasing popularity of reality show Bigg Boss 7 on Colors has helped the show gain marginally this week and record 5,491 TVTs (5,316) while long running series Balika Vadhu ratings decreased this week to record 6,684 TVTs (7,298). Meanwhile a marginal rise in viewership led Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon to record 4,749 TVTs (4,473). Uttaran ratings dipped this week  and registered 3,645 TVTs as against 4096 TVTs last week and widely watched show Comedy Nights with Kapil has not witnessed  any change in viewership as it recorded 8,464 TVTs (8,588) and the thriller series ‘24’, on the channel has picked up once again to register 3,058 TVTs (2,881) this week.

Zee TV’s historical show Jodha Akbar has notched up  to record a score of 9,801 TVTs (9,176)  while the fictional series Qubool Hai ratings witnessed a rise to record 5,830 TVTs (5,646).  Pavitra Rishta ratings too picked up and registered a score of 5,043 TVTs (4,879).  Viewership of drama series Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se dropped to register 5,019 TVTs (5,622).  The recently launched dance show DID 4 viewership registered 4,856 TVTs (5,547) on Saturday and 4,476 TVTs (5,075) on Sunday thus indicating a dip in the ratings of the reality show. The new sitcom on the channel Bh se Bhade saw a steep fall in viewership as it registered 1,650 TVTs (2,080) in week 47 of TAM.

The popular mythological series Mahadev on Life OK failed to attract viewership and has recorded 3,212 TVTs (3,693) in week 47. Viewership of Do Dil Ek Jaan increased slightly to register 1,494 TVTs (1,472). The other offerings on the channel, namely, Savdhan India picked up substantially to register a score of 3,035 TVTs (2,848) and Shapath, a favourite with audiences witnessed a dip in its ratings to register 4,057 TVTs (4,392). Meanwhile among the new shows on the channel, Ek Boond Ishq ratings too dipped to record 2,834 TVTs (3,112) this week.

Fiction show on SAB TV, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has taken a huge jump and garnered a score of 8,856 TVTs (7,782) in week 47. Chidiya Ghar too gained points to record 3,479 TVTs (3,265), Lapataganj on the channel registered a score of 1,921 TVTs (1,986) and Baalveer viewership too increased to register 3,293 TVTs (3,134)  thus indicating a climb in the ratings of  most shows on the channel  this week.

The long running crime series CID on Sony Entertainment Television witnessed a tremendous surge in its ratings and recorded a score of 5,254 TVTs (4,744) this week.  But Crime Patrol on the other hand lost viewership and registered a score of 3,255 TVTs (3,887).  Historical show Maharana Pratap on the channel saw an improvement in its ratings and registered 3,054 TVTs (2,922) while ratings of KBC on the channel is of late seeing a downslide and has recorded 3,248 TVTs (3,738). The new horror flick Bhoot Aaya on the channel has failed to attract viewership as it registered 1,662 TVTs as against last week’s score of 1,792 TVTs in week 47 of TAM.

The movie channels genre recorded the following GVTs this week: Zee Cinema viewership registered an increase in its ratings to record 197,512 GVTs (185,759), Star Gold ratings do not differ much from last week’s ratings with 178,122 GVTs (174,020). Movies OK too saw a drop in viewership to record 127,470 GVTs (130,641). The increase in viewership of movie channel &pictures is evident with a huge jump thus garnering 112,609 GVTs (77,910) for the channel.  Zee Anmol ratings increased and registered 46,088 GVTs (44,457) while Max too grabbed the maximum eyeballs this week to register a score of  200,508 GVTs (173,908) as per data recorded  in week 47 of TAM, 2013.
