TV Today Network files suit against Newslaundry for copyright infringement

The TV Today Network, parent group of news majors like Aaj Tak and India Today, has filed a suit in the Delhi High Court against Newslaundry for copyright violation and “exploiting commercially disparaging material on their own website”.

The media group has sought Rs 2 crore in damages.

Newslaundry’s co-founder Abhinandan Sekhri, Director Prashant Sareen, Director Roopak Kappor, Executive Editor Manisha Pande, Correspondent Ayush Tiwari, Columnist Hridayesh Joshi and Executive Editors Atul Chaurasia and Raman Kirpal have been made respondents in this case.

In its suit filed, TV Today Network has also sought the removal of 34 articles published on the Newslaundry website as well as 65 videos on Newslaundry’s YouTube channel.

TV Today Network in its lawsuit has stated that Newslaundry is “using the original cinematograph films and sound recordings of the Plaintiff for the sole purpose of making their own programme more interesting, attractive or enjoyable and are therefore deriving benefit from using the said works at the cost of the Plaintiff’s exclusive rights in the same and are therefore infringing upon the copyright of the Plaintiff in the said original cinematograph films and sound recordings”.
