Twitter celebrates #SakshiMalik medal win at Rio

As wrestler Sakshi Malik ended India’s medals drought at the ongoing Rio Olympic Games, Twitter saw an overwhelming reaction to her win. More than 230,000 Tweets came in for celebration around Sakshi’s victory.

#SakshiMalik was trending throughout the night and on Thursday morning as well on Twitter. @SakshiMalik first Tweet received more than 4,700 retweets.

Aneesh Madani, Head of Sports Partnerships at Twitter India, commented, “Sakshi and Dipa made history at the Olympics and fans in India responded with lots of love on Twitter, with more than half a million Tweets about their performances. Both of them used Twitter to share their gratitude, and public leaders to Bollywood actors, journalists to media organisations, athletes to fans followed them immediately after.”
