Umang Bedi quits as Facebook MD - India & South Asia

Umang Bedi, Managing Director - India & South Asia at Facebook, has put in his papers. It is learnt that he has quit due to personal reasons as well as “to pursue a personal interest and a long-term goal”. He leaves Facebook after a stint of one and a half years.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Bhushan has been appointed as interim MD for Facebook in India. He has been part of Facebook’s core leadership team in India. Over the next month, Bedi will begin to hand over his day-to-day responsibilities to Bhushan.

Terming his stint in Facebook was “one of his most inspiring and rewarding experience”. Addressing the Facebook staff in a mail, Bedi wrote, “Every day has been nothing but inspiring for me – knowing that our team, every day, is thinking about how we can realise our mission of giving people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.”

On his next venture, he hinted in his mail, “I have always had a strong interest in entrepreneurship and driving large impact, and having spent the last one and half years here, and working closely with big and small businesses across the various industries, it has reminded me again how much I want to pursue this goal which I have always had.”

Prior to joining Facebook India, Bedi was with Intuit Inc., where he was Managing Director - India & Emerging Markets. He has also worked with Symantec Corporation, Sun Microsystems Inc, Wipro Corporation, and Satyam Computer Services.
