Unilever elevates Javed Jafri to media and digital hub lead

Javed Jafri (pictured) has been appointed to the position of Southeast Asia and Indonesia ice cream digital, analytics, and commerce hub head, as well as Malaysia and Singapore media lead, located in Malaysia. Jafri has worked with Unilever for over 11 years, most recently as the media and digital hub head for Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos. During this period, he oversaw a team of more than 20 people from various countries, handled Unilever's media, and was Unilever's data governance lead for Malaysia.

He was formerly located in Pakistan, where he served as the chief of media for four years. He built media marketing strategies through user mapping, measured the efficacy of digital marketing initiatives, and analysed ROIs and KPIs for over 40 firms. According to his LinkedIn profile, Jafri has over 21 years of expertise leading customer-centric projects in the marketing and media industries, launching brand campaigns and reinforcing brand impressions.

Jafri is also the Vice President of the Malaysian Marketers Association (MAA), a unified organisation that represents advertisers' interests in all aspects of commercial communications. MAA was established in 1964 and now has approximately 102 members. Some of its goals include improving marketing effectiveness, supporting advertising self-regulation, and forming a marketing collaboration with agencies and media.

Meanwhile, while residing in Pakistan, Jafri has worked with corporations such as Telenor, Tapal Tea, and Mediacom. He worked with Telenor for six years, his most recent position being strategic media manager. He was in charge of the company's media strategy, market research, and media analysis and forecasting. He formerly worked for tea manufacturer Tapal Tea, where he oversaw the creation of Tedzum, a combination of high grown Kenyan main leaf grades.

In the meantime, Unilever Malaysia has announced a flurry of new projects and measures to commemorate its 75th anniversary. It unveiled a new anniversary logo with 25 colourful motifs woven together on the figure 75, representing the company's uniqueness and Unilever's mission to make sustainable living mainstream.

Unilever's entire marketing staff has also lately undergone a number of adjustments. Kartik Chandrasekhar, global lead for Lifebuoy, took on the post of head of oral care and skin cleaning for developing and emerging countries, as part of its simplification structure, effective July 1, 2022. Meanwhile, Triveni Rajagopal, global digital director for skin cleansing and oral care, was promoted to personal care digital transformation lead, while Chiradeep Gupta was designated VP, personal care, head of media, and global integrated media strategy lead located in London.
