Up close and personal: Team of Nautanki

One of the most awaited films this month is all set to hit the theatres today. ‘Nautanki Saala’ featuring Ayushmann Khurrana of ‘Vicky Donor’ fame and Kunal Roy Kapoor of ‘Delhi Belly’ have been directed by Rohan Sippy and produced by Bhushan Kumar & Ramesh Sippy.

Ayushmann won everyone’s heart with his debut film ‘Vicky Donor’ in 2012, for which he won two Filmfare awards, as best debut actor and as a playback singer.  Apart from being a talented actor he was also a theatre artist and that’s one of the reasons which motivated him towards this film.

Ayushmann Khurrana and Kunal Roy Kapoor shared their thoughts on ‘Nautanki Saala’ in an up-close interaction with Adgully.

As Khurrana said, “ The film has as much fun element as it was there in my last film but apart from that the concept that’s been served is totally different. Here  in this film we are presenting theatre, as none of the films in Bollywood has taken theatre effectively. With this film we’ve actually shot in theatres and we tried to do our best to live up to it.”

Kunal added, “With this film we both have tried to share our theatre experience that we have, as we both come from a theatre background.  We tried to create that sense of fear one feels going up on stage and many more instances like this.”

On further note Khurrana said that it’s nothing new, it’s a drama that’s revolves around everyone’s life and it’s always a fun. For eg. We often lie to our friends, families and colleagues, it is a part of nautanki.

Both the actors have done one film each in past which was a massive hit. So, on being asked about their expectation with this film Kunal said, “This film is different for me as in my earlier film I’ve played a fat selfish guys here I am playing a role of simple and dumbo kind of guy.
Ayushmann plays a role of theatre director and also worked on two tracks for this film, ‘Tu Hi Tu and Saddi Galli.’

Kunal’s character in the film is of Mandar Lele, a depressed and lonely guy from a Maharashtrian background. On his cast Kunal expressed that, “My character will make audience laugh  but it was tough  for me. It was difficult to speak Marathi lines as I belonged to Maharashtrian family in this film.  Ayushmann’s character as a director is of a helpful and generous person. His name in the film is Ram but he’ll end up playing the role of Ravan in the play of this film. And story takes a turn when Mandar and Ram meet each other.
The film also stars Pooja Salvi, Evelyn Sharma and Gaelyn Mendonca along with Ayushmann and Kunal.

While they have done with the marketing and promotion of the film, now it’s time for us to judge Nautanki performed by these Nautanki’s in Nautanki Saala.
