upGrad CEO Arjun Mohan resigns

Arjun Mohan, CEO of upGrad, has resigned after a nearly three-year tenure, underscoring growing pressure on edtech startups in a post-Covid business environment.
A spokesperson for upGrad confirmed the development. There is no information on Arjun Mohan's replacement.
The edtech startup, led by Ronnie Screwvala, Mayank Kumar, and Phalgun Kompalli, onboarded Mohan as the CEO in April 2020. According to his LinkedIn profile, he was previously the chief business officer of the ed-tech company Byju's.
Operated by upGrad Education Pvt. Ltd, upGrad posted a loss of ₹626.6 crores in FY22, sharply widening from a ₹211.1 crore loss in the previous year. During this period, expenses increased more than 2.5 times to 1,300.6 crores from 513.8 crores. Mohan’s exit follows upGrad’s investment of ₹30 crores in December to grow its product vertical under the TuringMinds brand.
In August last year, ETS Global and Bodhi Tree led a $210 million funding round at a $2.25 billion valuation for the company.
