VEER & NCPEDP celebrate World Disability Day with 'Walk to Freedom'

On World Disability Day, CNN-IBN in association with Thums Up, Being Human and the American India Foundation organized ‘The NCPEDP-Veer Walk to Freedom’ which witnessed participation of more than 3,000 differently-abled people and their supporters.

Along with festivities and special performances, the event also included sign language training for the participants and performance of the National Anthem in sign language by the SNS foundation. The celebrations ended with a symbolic Walk to Freedom at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate. The event saw Javed Abidi, Honorary Director, NCPEDP and Nishant Pandey, Country Director of American India Foundation addressing the people.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Radhakrishnan Nair, Managing Editor, CNN-IBN, said, “We are grateful to receive support from Thums Up, Being Human, American India Foundation and NCPEDP in this initiative. Through the Walk to Freedom, we aim to create awareness and compassion about the differently-abled community and bring them into the mainstream by unleashing their true potential.”

In an effort to provide people with disabilities (PwDs) the best employment opportunities, CNN-IBN launched VEER to generate awareness and advocate for inclusivity, accessibility and employability of PwDs. The one-of-its-kind initiative aspires to exhort and educate the citizens of India to play the role of an enabler and make people with disability discern their true potential. After receiving an overwhelming response last year, VEER in its second edition aims to drive an amount of INR 2 crores for training 2000 PwDs.
