Viacom18 appoints Vikram Malhotra as the COO for Studio18

Mumbai, August 16th 2010 - Studio18, the film production and distribution arm of Viacom18 today announced the appointment of Vikram Malhotra as the Chief Operating Officer. As the COO, Vikram will be responsible for driving growth and profitability at Studio18 and will be reporting into Haresh Chawla, Group CEO ' Viacom18.

Commenting on the appointment, Chawla, said, "The Indian film market is experiencing a transformation in the kind of movies that are being created specially with its focus on new age cinema. We believe that Vikram with his experience ranging from mainstream to new age cinema will be the best suited to take Studio18 into a new phase."

Vikram joins Studio18 from Balaji Telefilms, where as the COO, he was responsible for the business strategy and profitable growth of the motion pictures business. Prior to that, Vikram was the Head of Worldwide Marketing of one of India's premier consumer brands, Kingfisher Airlines, where he led a team that is credited with creating India's largest airline brand in just a little over 4 years of operations.

Speaking on the move , Vikram added, "I enjoyed a great run with Balaji, where thanks to the talented team and exceptional relationships with our partner directors and actors, I was able to steer successes like LSD and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, as well as exciting forthcoming projects. Looking ahead, I believe that movies in India is not just a business but also a religion. And this makes the domain that much more exciting and challenging. Studio18 has done a great job since its launch with films like Jab We Met, Welcome, Singh Is King and Ghajini amongst others and I look forward to creating the blueprint for its growth ahead."
