Vivo retains IPL title sponsorship rights till 2022 for Rs 2,199 cr

Chinese smartphone major, Vivo, has retained the title sponsorship rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the next five years (2018 to 2022). Vivo had bid Rs 2,199 crore for the rights, which is a whopping 554 per cent increase over the previous contract amount of Rs 200 crore. It is learnt that Oppo, Xiaomi, and Intex were also in the fray for the title sponsorship rights.

Vivo had come on board as the title sponsor of IPL in 2015 after PepsiCo pulled out.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Vivo will be jointly conducting extensive on-ground activations and marketing campaigns.

Speaking on the development, Rajeev Shukla, Chairman, IPL, said, “We are delighted to have Vivo joining us once again as the title sponsor for IPL for the next five years. The association with Vivo has been great for the past two seasons and I am sure they will continue to make it bigger and better.”

Acting President of the BCCI, CK Khanna, added here, “Vivo as a brand has carved its niche and legacy in the market. We are extremely glad to have Vivo as the title sponsor and look forward to an enriching affiliation for both stakeholders.”

“We received an overwhelming response for the title sponsorship rights and we are glad to have Vivo back on board. It is a renewal of a fruitful relationship with the brand that will extend for the next five years,” said Amitabh Choudhary, Acting Secretary of the BCCI.

Along with IPL, Vivo has also acquired the title sponsorship rights for the upcoming Pro Kabaddi League for a period of five years, starting 2017. The smartphone manufacturer has also bagged the sponsorship rights for the FIFA World Cup 2018 and 2022.
