We are looking forward to a brand-new online silver economy: Tapan Mishra

Shrugging off the disruptions of the year gone by, businesses and agencies are looking for a strong revival in 2021. Over the next few weeks, Adgully – as part of our annual TRENDING NOW endeavour – will be presenting the strategies and views of a cross-section of industry leaders as they go about reclaiming lost time and market opportunities and build for a stronger future, armed with the lessons of 2020.

The pandemic proved to be a severe moment of truth in the eldercare segment, says Tapan Mishra, Founder, Seniority, adding, the imposed social isolation, along with retirement and an empty nest, led to the loss of structure and stimulation for seniors around the world.

Outlook for 2021

Businesses have spent much of the past year scrambling to adapt to extraordinary circumstances. While the fight against the pandemic is not yet won, but with the vaccination drive currently on, there is some light at the end of the tunnel – along with the hope that another train isn’t heading our way.

In the year ahead, we plan on continuing with remote work. We will continue to build our community platform, Evergreen Club, to help seniors thrive in retirement so that they can enjoy the lives they’ve worked so hard to earn. Evergreen Club is an industry-first offering designed to offer opportunities at emotional, social, and recreational levels to keep seniors engaged with themselves as well as the society at large, reducing their boredom and loneliness.

Great expectations

From fluctuations in the economy to altered social norms to unexpected business adaptations – the pandemic has presented society with unprecedented challenges and changes that could have never been predicted.

Like everyone else, we are hoping that the gradual rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine across the globe and in India will help restore consumer confidence and help ease restrictions during the year ahead.

With the launch of the Evergreen Club app a few months ago, we find ourselves ideally positioned to empower seniors and help them in supporting their complete well-being during and after the pandemic. Seniors, who might have been tech-averse in the past and took to the digital world in 2020 to stay connected, will continue to stay connected digitally. We are, indeed, looking forward to a brand-new online silver economy.

With a large part of our focus on building the community, we will also continue to serve our customers with sharpened product offerings through our private labels on our e-commerce platform.

Key learnings from 2020

The pandemic proved to be a severe moment of truth in the eldercare segment. While we’ve been catering to the health and lifestyle needs of senior citizens through our retail platforms online and offline, the year 2020 exposed the gap in addressing the need for their emotional well-being. The imposed social isolation, along with retirement and an empty nest, led to the loss of structure and stimulation for seniors around the world. We learnt of their stinging loneliness in our interactions with our customers. The pain of loneliness extends well beyond just emotions with far-reaching consequences. We knew that an online social platform designed for seniors was the need of the hour and hence, Evergreen Club was born.
