As BARC data for News channels resumes, tussle for No. 1 spot begins again

Prior to the suspension of news channel ratings by BARC, there was an intense battle between Republic TV and Times Now for the numero uno spot. Republic TV has been positioned as the No. 1 English News channel since its launch in 2017. Times Now has been placed in the second spot.

Times Now emerges as Number 1 English news channel during the week 10'22

Times Now has emerged as the Number 1 English News Channel during the week 10'22 (5 -11 March 2022), according to the news channel rating data released by the BARC. The news channel had a 30% share as against its competitor Republic TV with 27% share. Closely following were India Today TV and CNN News18 with 14% and 13% share, respectively.

Republic TV soars to numero uno spot with record viewership numbers across India

Republic TV has soared with record viewership numbers across India across time bands, according to a release by the news broadcaster. “With a phenomenal 44% viewership share in super-primetime and 41% all India across time bands, Republic TV is almost 200% greater than the closest competitor in the English genre (Times Now),” said the Republic release.
