Weekend Exclusive | Actor Ali Asgar aka Juju: Up close and personal

Ali Asghar, aka Ali Asgar, a well known happy-go-lucky man has been seen in many films and television shows making people laugh. Having worked in Bollywood mostly as a comedian, Asgar is also the winner of the Comedy Circus competition with Kashif Khan and of Comedy circus ke taansen with Kapil.

He has spent more than a decade doing a variety of shows and is now one of the most sought after television actors of today. Being the winner of a popular stand-up comedy show, he himself and the audience loves his comic timing and rendition of humour.

Asgar began working at a very early stage with supporting roles in movies. He was seen in movies like Aitbaar, Partner etc, which are off-course the recent ones. Ali’s role of Kamal Agarwal in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki shot him to lime light and fame and thus became one of the most favorite televisions ‘Devar’.

His most recent film is Tees Maar Khan and the latest show is Jeannie Aur Juju. In his current show he is seen playing the lead role of ‘Juju’ who is a Captain Vikram. Adgully caught up with him during the launch of Jeannie Aur Juju, the show which is an Indian adaptation of the supremely popular American sitcom of the 80’s with a fantasy premise called ‘I dream of Jeannie’.

Speaking about his role in show, he said, “Vikram’s role is very light hearted comedy one. The man gets stuck between genie and his girlfriend. Vikram is seen tackling and screwing up things in the show. But all the situations are very entertaining and full of ‘masti’. After a long time I got a role of such a kind which is energetic, full of life and fun. ”

Though it’s an adaptation of the American Sitcom, Ali believes that his role will be quite different. He says, “While shooting I had just seen a single episode of the original show because I dint wanted my role to be a repetitive one. I wanted to portray my character is some unique way with my comic and humour offering the viewers something different.”

His journey has been really entertaining from Ek Do Teen Chaar, a comedy show from which he started his career from to Jeannie Aur Juju. When asked why focused towards Comedy shows, he says, “Yes most of the shows done by me are comedy ones but I cannot help it; it started and is going on till now. But when I was doing Kahani Ghar Ghar ki, for 8 long years I did not do any comedy show. But after that again I am back in it. I suppose audience loves me in that position and so do the directors and the show producers and likely so do I.”

Talking about the challenges, he said, “This industry is such that from a new entrant to a veteran all will face some or the other challenges. Every role that I play or played has been challenging, making people laugh and every time with something new is the biggest challenge. The audience gets bored very quickly and so to keep up to their demand is something that is very daring.”

When asked what makes him proud and happy the most, Asgar said, “When my family and kids feel proud about my work.”

Just for recalling, Ali's career whizzed with shows like Ghauranda, Parampara, Kartavya, Karz followed by Balaji's Itihaas, Kutumb, Hum Paanch-Season 2 etc etc. A very down-to-earth person, Ali has a long way to go and we at Adgully wish him success. | By Aanchal Kohli [aanchal@adgully.com]
