Weekend Exclusive | Actor, comedian Gaurav Gera: Up close and personal

An interesting personality and an actor who has radiated his immense talent not only on television but also in Bollywood is young and talented, Gaurav Gera, who is all set to entertain his viewers with his upcoming show ‘Tota Weds Maina’.

After earning a diploma in fashion and working for a while with a production house in New Delhi, Gera moved to Mumbai and made his debut as an actor in the Indian television soap Life Nahin Hai Laddoo on Star Plus, but gained recognition only after his roles in popular shows like Sanskruti, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin and The Great Indian Comedy Show.
He has also played cameo roles in a number of television serials like Love ne Bana di Jodi (Star One) a couple of stories in Ssshhhh... Koi Hai (Star Plus) and C.I.D. (Sony TV), CID Special Bureau (Sony TV), Comedy Circus - Chinchpokli to China (Sony TV), Yeh Meri Life Hai (Sony TV), Krishna Sharma C.A (Star Plus), Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki (Sahara TV) to name a few.

In Dekh India Dekh a reality show on Sony TV Gaurav played the role of a woman - Malti Manohar Mishra. The other reality shows he participated in were Fun on the Run (Zee TV) with Mukul Dev and Paisa Bhari Padega (Sab TV). He also took part in an episode of the game show Deal Ya No Deal, along with his co-actor from Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Mona Singh. The versatile actor also known to have hosted several programmes has co-hosted the reality show Hans Baliye with Sunil Grover. He has anchored the reality show Bathroom Singer on Sahara Filmy and also hosted the IIFA Awards on Star Plus in 2009.

Gaurav’s career in films began with the Bollywood movie Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na . His other films include Neal 'n' Nikki where he plays a sardar ,Happy Singh and the heart-warming movie Dasvidaniya. His other movies yet to be released are - MP3 - Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar, Woodstock Villa, Buddha Mar Gaya, Oh My God. Jack n Jhol, Umeed se Dugna, Lucky Boys and Hello India.

He is presently producing and directing webisodes for Gaurav Gera TV thus providing entertainment for internet users. It is a whole new channel with short and interesting reality webisodes that he has  shot with some of his  television actor friends.

The year 2012 has gone by. But for Gaurav it was a year packed with hard work since he was busy with his Bollywood musical show ‘Jhumroo’ which was launched in April 2012. Later in the year came his break as lead actor in SAB TV’s upcoming show ‘Tota Weds Maina’.

Speaking about his long absence and subsequent comeback on the television screen he said, “I never had any problem with daily soaps, but I always felt that in the television industry there is loads of work needed to be done and I used to feel that I am not of that temperament and  would not be able to handle so much work at once.”
He also added saying “ When I started working for the show ‘Jhumroo’, I rehearsed for 12 hours a day for a period of about nine months and while doing that it struck me that if I can do this that means I have enough potential to handle work pressure.”

Sharing some of his personal views as an actor and how he  relates himself with the  character he plays, Gaurav said that he prefers  to play the role of a common man with scripts based on real incidents and  real stories. Though a comedian he also loves to portray his emotional side too which he loves to showcase in his acting skills.
