Weekend Exclusive | Author, Motivational Speaker, Loving Father ' Presenting Chetan Bhagat

Chetan Bhagat, a household name after his debut book, "Five Point Someone' was the chief guest at Ira Trivedi's book launch at Crosswords. Bhagat, an IIM graduate with four books to his name is definitely a man of fine words and a deep sense of humour.

Five Point Someone, One Night @ the Call Center, The 3 Mistakes of My Life and 2 States have been coffee table conversations and continues to charm his readers even today. Bhagat's columns, which he writes for mainstream English as well as Hindi newspapers are widely read and very popular. There is a lot of focus on current issues and tries to bring in awareness about national development.

Speaking exclusively to Adgully, Bhagat said in the recent times the two most inspiring events have been India's victory at the World Cup and Anna Hazare's protest. He further added, "India's win happened so fast, it was inspiring to know what we are capable of as a team. Also Anna Hazare's protest is deeply inspiring and is for a good cause."

According to him good writing should have a sense of empathy and observation, articulation, lightness and flow. He said, "These are important elements and ensures the book is a good read."

Although he admits it is difficult to choose just one favourite author, he said, "R.K Narayan is a great writer and I love reading his books. I like reading popular fiction along with other genres."

Like all amazing writers, Bhagat too sometimes faces writer's block. When asked how he handles this, he said to Adgully, "I generally play with my kids or go for a walk. Sometimes I do events such as these or do a motivational talk. Basically I try and distance myself away from my writing as much as possible, so that I can come back to it with a fresh mind."

Bhagat is someone who believed in his dream and followed it. He quit his investment banking career abroad so that he could devote all his time to his writing. On an ending note, he advises all young writers to be patient and to believe in what they truly want. | By Janees Antoo [janees(at)adgully.com]
