What if a simple question could alter your life outcomes?

What if a simple question could alter your life outcomes?

As I entered home after a long day at work - I realized my wife and son were waiting to go out for dinner. I asked if we could defer our dinner plans.

"Why should your family get the worst of you?" My wife retorted. "Why don’t you decide HOW YOU WISH TO SHOW UP?" How do I wish to show up?

This simple question has had the biggest impact on my life - professional success, health and relationships. As I began to consciously reflect on this in every situation - I found myself coming up with more "win-win" outcomes.

Here's how you could apply this question to your everyday work and personal life:

  1. Show up as your BEST VERSION

- The universe doesn’t care if you're having an "off" day! If you're below-par - is this a choice or an unavoidable situation?

  1. Show up PRESENT

- If there are 5 different thoughts racing your mind now. You better stop reading this and move on.

- "Distractions are abundant, attention is scarce" - constantly remind yourself if you're present RIGHT NOW… it will eventually become a habit.

  1. Show up PREPARED

- Do you take pride in accomplishing tasks just before deadlines… or completing a pitch-deck just before the big meeting?

- Preparation is the most under-appreciated attribute in corporate world. Think deeply about your readiness for every meeting, interaction and action.

  1. Show up to LISTEN

- How many times in a conversation, you've already made up your response as your colleague begins to make an argument? By doing so, are you really finding the best solutions

  1. Show up to ACT

- The life we lead is an outcome of decisions we've made. And that's your ultimate objective - the quality of your decisions! If you've been through the above #4 steps, you are likely in a better position.

- Have a bias for action... make decisions and keep moving.

Now, every evening - before I ring the doorbell… I take a couple of minutes to gather my thoughts and energy… and try to show up as the best version of myself.

I do the same when I enter a critical negotiation, a business pitch, or a workout at the gym or at work.

And that my friends, has made all the difference!

I wish you all the success and happiness. Do send in your comments.
