WhatsApp will not delete Indian user's account that do not accept privacy update

On Friday, WhatsApp clarified that it will not delete the accounts of Indian users who do not accept its new privacy policy update. Users had to accept the policy before the May 15 deadline. The policy allows Facebook owned businesses to share data with third party apps including its parent company. The policy was deferred from February in response to widespread protests.

The messaging platform has iterated that its privacy update does not compromise its end to end encryption. WhatsApp serves 400 million users in India.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is fighting a petition challenging its new privacy policy in the Delhi High Court as well as challenging a probe by Competition Commission of India (CCI) into its privacy policy.

The court has issued notices to the Centre, WhatsApp and Facebook and sought their stand on the petition by May 13.
