Will Onam herald a bumper festive season this year?

The initial muted market sentiments have disappeared as Onam, Kerala’s biggest festival, commences. Just a month back Kerala was reeling under the highest number of daily COVID-19 infections and also faced with rising cases of the Zika virus and there was no clarity on whether markets would be opened up for Onam shopping.

As the COVID-19 situation improves, Kerala is looking for a bumper season this year, which a brought great cheer to brands and marketers. Not just local brands, national brands, too, are keenly eyeing consumer sentiments during Onam, as the festival heralds the start of the festive season in India. Following Onam will be Raksha Bandhan, Ganesha Mahotsav and then on to Dussehra/ Durga Puja, Diwali and later on Christmas.
