Winning in the zero experience age: Tuhina Pandey

The need for efficient and dynamic leaders has never been more important than now, as India transforms and makes her imprint on the world stage. Because the employment market is so volatile and there is severe attrition across the board, spotting and developing good leader potential has always been a struggle for most organisations. A company’s growth might be slowed by a loss of intellectual capital. As a result, organisations all over the world have enormous difficulties in keeping and cultivating new leaders. Those organisations or businesses that do not groom and retain their leaders will fall behind.

Adgully’s first edition of Leader 2.0, held on January 24, 2022, showcased some of the emerging leaders from different sectors who have paved their own path and are leading their organisations to newer and greater heights.

Speaking on the topic ‘Winning in the zero experience age’, Tuhina Pandey, Communications Leader, IBM Global Digital Sales and India & South Asia, noted people’s tendency to claim having ‘n’ number of years of experience in one field or the other, and added that in today’s market scenario, no one can claim that they have a lot of experience.

She added, “In the way the world is changing today, a lot that is happening around us and a lot of people don’t have the experience, no matter how long they have been working or how accomplished they are. Thus, whether someone is in a leadership position with several years of experience, or someone who is relatively young or has zero experience – both have an equal chance of bagging that fund or opportunity or applying yourself, in some cases, in fact, better chances, because you don't have.

Pandey further said, “Zero experience was always there. For instance, when I was growing up, I remember seeing the mobile phone for the first time. But for my parents, who had been using landline phones all their lives, they didn’t know how to experience the mobile phone and what to do with this piece of instrument. But today, look at how far the world has traveled. Our entire world is in our palms – that is the power of how a change can change lives and the world around us.”
