Zee Classic celebrates 75 years of musical genius - R.D.Burman

Zee Classic, India’s only classic Hindi movie channel is known to celebrate the life and work of evergreen artists and entertain its viewers with a vast library of the greatest movies from the Golden Era. It will air the musical concert ‘RD Night’ dedicated to the life and times of the country’s beloved music composer – R D Burman or Pancham Da as he is affectionately called on Sunday, 26th April, 2015 at 1:00 PM. R D Night, the concert, features renowned artists from the music fraternity come together to commemorate the unconventional legend & celebrate the life’s work of a man who irrevocably changed the world of music with his chart topping compositions.

Known as versatile and delightfully unpredictable, R D Burman is one of the greatest music personalities of the Hindi movie industry.  With innumerable chartbusters like ‘Aaja aaja main hun pyar tera’, ‘Piya tu Ab toh Aaja’ and at the same time melodious numbers like ‘Tere bina zindagi se shiqwa’ or ‘Tujhse se naraz nahi', he has wowed millions of hearts. He is one of India’s most remarkable artists who through his music said so much that it left words unnecessary.  Adding to his flamboyant personality, he also experimented with his vocal skills like in the track ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ that won him the sole Filmfare Awards nomination for his playback singing.

As a tribute to Pancham Da, the RD Night hosted by Sumeet Raghavan, showcases Babul Supriyo, Sudesh Bhosle with his son Siddhanta Bhosle, Javed Ali, Jaspinder Narula, Madhushree, Anvesha Dutta Gupta, set ablaze the stage with some sensational performances. The concert is one its kind as the entire life journey of Pancham Da will be showcased through interesting audio-visuals, making of songs, straight from the heart anecdotes shared by industry stalwarts like Bappi Lehiri and Sachin Pilgaonkar. RD Night also features one of the rare appearances of the three dynamic musicians from Pancham Da’s troupe – Homi Mulla, Ranjit Gazmer and Amrutrao Katkar who came on stage and played the musical instruments reso reso and mandal in memory of their mentor. The three musical gems have worked with the legendary rockstar RD Burman for songs like ‘Mere Saamne Waali Khidki’ (Padosan), ‘Chingari Koi Bhadke’ (Amar Prem) and ‘Jaane-Jaan’ (‘Sanam Teri Kasam’) and many more.

Speaking on the occasion of Zee Classic’s special R D Night, Ruchir Tiwari, Deputy Business Head, Hindi Movie Channels, ZEEL, stated, “R D Burman is a legendary music composer and holds a special place in our hearts. His musical journey is imprinted in the minds of music lovers and continues to inspire today's generation.  With this concert, we are paying a tribute to the musical genius and getting together leading music composers and singers who will recreate the magic called ‘Pancham da’ in their own unique way. For the RD Burman fan, we have also created a photo exhibition illustrating memoirs of him”.
