Zee Media lets go of 10% of its workforce: Sources

The third quarter of FY2023 is not turning out to be a good one for employees. There have been mass layoffs at leading organisations across the world. Twitter has been in the news due to the chaotic layoffs in all its offices after Elon Musk took charge – as much as 90 per cent of Twitter’s work force have been let go in India.

The industry was abuzz yesterday with news of Meta laying off 11,000 of its employees.

Indian companies too have not been spared by this wave of layoffs as they take strong measures to cut costs and conserve cash. Leading edtech company BYJU’S is gearing up to let go of 2,500 employees. Another edtech company, Unacademy has already had three rounds of layoffs.

Amid all these now comes the news of Zee Media reducing its manpower by 10%. According to industry sources close to the development, 20 people were let go of at the news organisation yesterday (November 9, 2022), while 80 people were laid off earlier. Among those who have been asked to leave is the Bihar Zee Resident Editor, according to sources.

Zee Media is letting go of its workforce from across departments, including Output, Input, administration, etc.

As reported earlier, Zee Media had pulled out of BARC in September 2022, which included 14 of its national and regional news channels.
