Zee Media sacks Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal editor for biased reporting

Zee Media Corporation Ltd (ZMCL) has terminated Jagdeep Singh Sandhu as the Editor of Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal with effect from March 28, 2022. Sandhu has been removed for biased reporting during the recently held Punjab Assembly Elections.

In a statement issued, Zee Media said that 2-3 months back Jagdeep Singh Sandhu allegedly entered into a clandestine understanding with a political party contesting the Punjab Assembly Elections.

According to a spokesperson of Zee Media, “As per the deal, Jagdeep would do biased reporting on ZEE PHH TV station (No. 1 TV channel in the state of Punjab) in favour of such political party, bypassing the organisation’s policy to remain neutral and impartial all the time or otherwise, and they supposedly agreed to grant him a Rajya Sabha nomination. It is further being talked that now the political party has backed out and is not fulfilling it’s part of the deal. Jagdeep was exposed in front of the management of Zee Media as he suddenly wanted to persuade the management to publish stories against the said political party. Such an act by Jagdeep is seen as not only unlawful and unethical journalistic practice, but it also amounts to defrauding and misleading the viewers of the network.”

The statement emphasised, “We have a zero-tolerance policy for any such act of dishonesty and gross misconduct by any of its work force”, and cautioned the general public/ political parties/ media against entering into any transaction with Sandhu on behalf of Zee Media as he “has no authority to represent the company and to enter into any arrangement/ agreement/ transaction/ deal of whatsoever nature with anyone on behalf of the company or to receive any money/ other consideration for and on behalf of the company.”
