Zee TV takes Maharakshak series to a next level

Zee TV introduced ‘Maharakshak’ - the superhero trilogy in November 2014. After Marakshak Aryan, with a vision of bringing audiences an original Indian superhero series, Zee TV launches Maharakshak’ ‘Devi’. Experiencing a fantasy world brought alive through cutting-edge visual effects, state-of-the-art graphics technology and stunt choreography of international standards for the very first time on Indian television, viewers instantly connected with the first part of the trilogy - ‘Aryan’.

The show appealed especially to children and men, adding great value to Zee TV’s weekend ‘family unifier’ band that aims to provide entertainment for each member of the family. Having raised the bar for action thrillers and the fantasy genre on Indian television with ‘Aryan’,  the channel now presents the second part of the ‘Maharakshak’ trilogy – ‘Devi’.  Taking the heady mix of drama, action, thrills and emotions associated with the ‘Maharakshak’ trilogy to the next level, ‘Devi’ tells the story of a girl who discovers superpowers within her and sets out on a mission to combat contemporary social evils. Starting 14th March at 7 PM every Saturday and Sunday, Zee TV’s ‘Maharakshak Devi’ will urge every Indian girl to look within for the strength to make a difference, because there’s a ‘Devi’ inside you!

Evil might have taken on different contemporary forms but their origins can be traced back to ancient mythology. Taking cues from this, the show traces the journey of a divine child who is chosen for the important role of protecting the earth against powerful asuras who have manifested themselves in a number of modern-day avatars ranging from vicious criminals to corrupt politicians and serial rapists to fraudulent scamsters. Unaware of the infinite power she possesses, God’s chosen one has spent 17 years away from human civilization. Her extraordinary journey starts when she is mentored by her guru Brihaspati who helps her connect with her inner strength and sends her back to human civilization with a purpose.

At the launch announcement of the show, Zee TV unveiled the concept of the show through a unique, enthralling display of sand art that brought alive the context and the circumstances that led to the birth and rise of Devi and the mission she sets out on. Pradeep Hejmadi, Zee TV Business Head said, “Fantasy, as a genre, had little or no representation on Indian television until we introduced the Maharakshak trilogy last year. The attempt was to give viewers an original Indian superhero series and the first part ‘Aryan’ was successful in that endeavor. With the second part, ‘Devi’, the premise of Good against Evil endures but our protagonist is now a girl blessed with superpowers that she will leverage to surmount evil that has manifested itself in various modern-day avatars. She is the embodiment of the collective strength of every contemporary Indian woman and in that sense, urges every woman out there to draw from her inner strength to be the Devi she truly is!”

While the young and spirited Umang Jain will essay the title role of Devi, popular actor Rohit Bakshi will lend his powerful persona to the role of her guru Brihaspati. The evil Shukracharya will be played by the talented actor Indraneil Sengupta. The show is produced by Essel Vision Productions Ltd (EVPL), ZEEL’s creative and production studio.
