ZEE5’s Unmatched India Growth Story

 ZEE5 clocked an average of 140 minutes of watch time per viewer which is 1.2X of the last quarter. Disruptive product & technology enhancements like the recommendation engine, auto preview of content, leading content in the form of originals and blockbuster digital premieres, the launch of the PWA in the latter part of Dec, some advance features in the KaIOS app have been some major contributors to this increase.

·       26 Original shows and movies in 6 languages released during the 3rd quarter, taking the total count to 84+ originals in 2019. We ended the year by producing 10X times more originals compared to any other OTT platform

·       A new refreshed ZEE5 Progressive Web App (PWA) was released in December  which allows a user to have a similar experience as an app on mobile without having to go through the entire journey of downloading the app. There is an “Add To Home Screen” feature which allows the user to add ZEE5 to their home screen and access it straight from there. With this new PWA, we plan to quickly scale our users and engagement 

·       From a business development perspective, we did an integration with Tata Sky Binge where Tata Sky Binge users could stream ZEE5 content for free. This made ZEE5 yet again the most widely distributed video streaming platform of the country

·       India’s CRÈME DE LA CRÈME list of advertisers joined the bandwagon. ZEE5 onboarded 30 + new brands.

 

“We also continue to invest in original content for ZEE5, to create a rich content library that will make it a really compelling offering for consumers,” said, Mr. Punit Goenka, ZEEL MD and CEO.

ZEE5 produced 10X times more originals compared to any other OTT platform in India making it the largest producer of digital original content in India. During the quarter, ZEE5 launched 26 original shows and movies, of which 14 were in regional languages. Yet again, making the platform the undisputed leader in the south market. Rangbaaz Phirse was the 1st franchise that was launched on Dec 20th after the sweeping success of the first season. The second season with a stellar star cast including, Jimmy Shergill and Gul Panag,  was an instant success garnering the highest video views and viewers on the day of launch for any show.

The launch of biggest blockbusters of 2019 like Jabariya JodiJudgemental Hai KyaDream Girl, Saandh ki Aankh got overwhelming response on the ZEE5 platform. In the regional space, Kaale Dhande in Marathi, God of Dharmapuri in Telugu and Karoline Kamakshi in Tamil were critically acclaimed and received positive reviews from users.

ZEE5 is one of the most widely distributed and available entertainment platforms due to extensive partnerships with telecom operators, OEMs, ISPs, and e-commerce platforms. During the quarter, ZEE5’s partnership with Tata Sky Binge and IRCTC went live, accelerating subscription growth. ZEE5 is the only OTT platform to integrate with IRCTC. To leverage the rapidly growing penetration of smart TVs in India, ZEE5 has inked deals with leading smart TV brands for placement of hotkey on their remotes.
