ZEEL Q2 FY2022 revenue up 14.9% at Rs 19,788 mn; ZEE5’s MAUs reach 93.2 mn

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) has reported 14.9% growth in its revenues for the second quarter ended September 30, 2021 at Rs 19,788 million, from Rs 17,227 million in Q2 FY2021, even as the network continued to be partially impacted by COVID-19 in the first half of the quarter. EBITDA for the quarter grew by 19.8% QoQ at Rs 4,121 million, with the EBITDA margin for Q2 at 20.8%.

Domestic Ad revenues grew both YoY (Rs 10,893 million, a growth of 20.1%) and QoQ (a growth of 18.9%).

On the other hand, Subscription revenues were down marginally in Q2 FY2022 by 1.5% YoY, with delay in NTO 2.0 implementation continuing to impact pricing. The new implementation timeline for NTO 2.0 implementation is April 1, 2022.

ZEEL’s international advertising revenue stood at Rs 487 million, while subscription revenue was reported at Rs 878 million and Other Sales & Services stood at Rs 135 million.

During Q2 FY2022, ZEEL’s all India TV network share increased to 17.7%. The network share was up by 70 bps on the back of new launches across all markets. However, total TV viewership was down during the quarter due to lower contribution by News and Movies, even as the new channels contributed 1.2% of the viewership share.

ZEEL’s Bengali, Kannada and Telugu channels continued to show strong performance, while Zee TV, Zee Marathi and Zee Tamil’s performance was soft during the quarter. Big bang launches planned across markets in Q3 are expected to continue upward momentum in network share. These include the new season of long-running talent hunt show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ and ‘Kashibai Bajirao Ballal’ on Zee TV and ‘Baal Shiv’ on &TV.

ZEE5: Gaining momentum backed by an extensive content catalogue

ZEE5, the OTT platform from ZEEL, added 13 million new monthly active users (MAUs) during the quarter to reach 93.2 million from Q1 FY2022. The platform saw 9.3 million global daily active users (DAUs) in September 2021.
