Zepto reveals India's NYE order history, or shall we say party poppers?

For most of us, the idea of New Year’s Eve paints a rather flashy picture of outdoor parties and grand galas. NYE 2023, however, brought a lot of parties home – or so says India’s Zepto order history from the last day of the year (compared to a usual day). 10-minute e-grocery service, Zepto, has revealed how India rang in 2023 and we can say it was quite a soirée.

The Food Spread

Nothing brings people together like good food. Right from munchies that grew in search and orders by over 50%, to frozen foods orders that went up by 80% (both veg and non-veg), and cold cuts and marinated meat by 150%, the party tables were full with diverse and delectable snack options. Dessert fixes were ruled by ice creams that saw a jump of 80%.

Cute Gram-able Corners

With a 142% increase in party needs (balloons, decorations, party poppers, disposable plates, etc., the halls were decked up again.

Drink Fix

While some went for the classic colas and soft drinks that saw a 100% order jump, others opted to replenish their energies through the evening with energy drinks that grew by 156%. India’s love for cocktails came through with a 516% increase in searches for cocktail mixers.

Ice Ice Baby…

Refrigerators and freezers certainly kept busy on December 31 as the orders for ice cubes went up by 200%.

Life Gave Lemons

The most friendly cocktail ingredient, lemon, was searched more by 70% than the previous Sunday with over 8000 orders placed on the eve of the New Year.

Ordered in a (FL)ash

The orders for Hookah flavours grew by 143% and Cigarettes by 150%.

Please Don’t Stop the Music

The sound did not drop by a single beat with many saving the night and making last-minute orders for music speakers, an increase of 200%. Phones, too, ran out of juice as demand for chargers grew by 40%, keeping up with the infinite number of photos, videos, and reels made and shared through the night.

Loosening the Spirit(s)

What follows a night of heavy partying? A hangover. As it did for many Indians on January 01, 2023 – as many as 4,798 as per their Zepto order histories. January 01 saw a rise in orders placed for tender coconut and coconut water compared to the previous day – what’s a better way to detox anyway, right?

Daily Essentials Remained Consistent

People planned well not just for their parties but also for the rest of their daily and monthly essentials. 74% of the total orders placed were for daily essentials that included cooking essentials, fresh vegetables, dairy and home needs.
