AgTalk | Will grow by launching various initiatives: ENZY Studio's Nishchal Zaveri

For over a century, Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri (TBZ) has been a reputed name synonymous with reliable and top quality gold jewellery. It is difficult to imagine the name’s association with any other business activity until a young scion of the family set out to pursue his passion and create a distinct identity in the musical world. Meet Nishchal Zaveri, promoter of  ENZY Studios, a diversification venture of  Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri Entertainment.  Himself a well known singer-songwriter, music producer, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Nishchal Zaveri has set up ENZY Studios, the state of the art music recording, and pre/post production facility.

Starting his musical journey at the age of two on the tabla, introduced to music by his grandfather Padmashree Kishorebhai Zaveri, Nishchal graduated in Hindustani Classical Vocals and Tabla from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad (Prabhakar). Nishchal also studied Piano at KM Music Conservatory, Chennai (A.R.Rahman’s Institute). He completed his degree in Music Production from Los Angeles Music Academy (LAMA) with President Roll of Honor. Nischal relishes experimenting with music and playing all-Western and Indian kind of musical instruments like Tabla, Keyboard, Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Drums.

Adgully caught up with multi-talented, Nishchal Zaveri, also the Managing Director, Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri Entertainment to talk about ENZY Studios and plans ahead.

Following is the excerpt of the conversation.

Adgully (AG): TBZ is a reputed name in gold jewellery for over a century. So what inspired you to venture into the entertainment industry, in particular music? How would you describe the state of entertainment industry in India today?

Nishchal Zaveri (NZ): The entertainment industry in India is currently going through a period of corporatization with the likes of Walt Disney, 20thCentury Fox, Warner Bros etc strengthening their presence and looking at going local in a big way. The music industry too is seeing very interesting work being done, A.R. Rehman’s Oscar for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ really exposed popular Indian music to global audiences Back home, the likes of MTV, Sony Mix and 9XO are experimenting with interesting concepts. Interesting times lie ahead is what I would say.

AG: How did you commence your journey into the world of music and set-up this venture? Who was your inspiration?

NZ: We are a family of artists, even gem & jewelry employs intricate design at the heart of it. My grandfather gifted me a tabla at a very young age and I have never spent a day without music in my life. I graduated in music and then went to the US where I played in a band apart from completing my education.

AG: How was ENZY Studio, Mumbai’s new music production sound house conceptualized?

NZ: We saw a crunching need for a platform like ENZY Studio, a space where musical artists could express themselves without any hindrance. The Indian music scene was just starting to hot up a couple of years ago with interesting formats like Coke Studio coming in and hence we thought that our timing in terms of ENZY Studioswas perfect.

AG: Will this state of the art music recording studio cater to Bollywood and independent artists as well?

NZ: ENZY Studios is open to everyone in India and to anyone who needs a platform to develop their music. We have worked with musical artists out of Europe already. Film industries across India apart from our very own Bollywood as well as ad film makers can use the studio. They can collaborate with us. We will also very soon launch a scouting program that will look to identify the best talent across India – the real hidden gems that no one has yet heard about. We will provide them with a platform to express. ENZY Studios and I as a music producer will guide and mentor.

AG: Please take us through the unique features of your studio?

NZ: We have live recording with an in-house professional artists team comprising of music producers, artists/composers, mixing engineers, recording engineers and mastering engineers. ENZY Studios is a one stop music production sound house committed to providing top quality recording and production services. We are fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipments and engineered room acoustics to provide pristine sound. Our sound house has been carefully planned to provide a creative and positive environment. ENZY Studios has two Control/Mix rooms, one Live room that can sit 30-piece orchestra, two ISO booths. As well as lounge and private rooms available for comfort while recording. Hollywood based architect Jerome Steckling of JSX Audio designed and engineered the studio and its’ acoustics. The design has been executed by UK based Munro Acoustics.

AG: Any challenges you faced in terms of expertise or skills while venturing into this new industry?

NZ: I being a music producer and a sound engineer was unfazed by the technicalities of setting up ENZY Studios. Having worked with the best in USA, I knew how I wanted to set up ENZY Studios. We currently have one of the best technical teams in the country and are looking to make our presence felt in the industry. I am very confident we will become a preferred partner to film makers, musicians, artists and ad writers very soon.

AG: Can you share the high points of your professional journey till date?

NZ: My entire life has been amazing I would say. In the earlier years our performances at  the Delhi University were one the key high points of my life. Then going to AR Rehman School for studying music further was the next most exciting phase of my life. Going to Los Angeles thereafter and where I learned a lot from well-known artists was an exciting phase. The best part I would say is to see people accepting and recognizing my passion and talent.

AG: How has ENZY Studios growth since its launch? Where do you see the company heading in the next two years and what are your future plans?

NZ: We are just launched and are currently in that phase where we are trying to reach out to our target audiences through word of mouth, endorsements and through our friends in media. In the next six months we are looking forward to let our work do the talking and also grow exponentially by launching various initiatives that will help us develop our own content and mentor artists in-house.
Our core business will be driven by the film industry and ad film makers and we will be seeing quite a decent amount of investment being made into developing new talent under ENZY Studios

AG: Looking at the growth of the entertainment industry what future trends do you see in this space?

NZ: I believe digitization will help the industry reach out to hidden customers. Piracy while still high could be countered. Independent music will make its presence felt significantly. 4G could also mean mobile devices as a medium will start bringing in revenue and the music industry is set to see a round of disruption.

AG: ENZY Studios is one of its kind in India and Asia. How are you planning to market /promote the studio?

NZ: The challenge in marketing something like ENZY Studios is that it is an experiential product at its core which is driven by a service element. Such things are hard to capture in conventional communication tools, especially at the start-up stage. We are currently in that phase where we are looking at reaching out to our core audiences directly and create a base for ourselves. In the second stage we would look for endorsements and testimonials and positive word of mouth followed by good publicity in the media using PR and social media. We are currently in phase II of our campaign in reaching out to our TG and will for the time being use PR and social media to reach out to a larger audience.
