BARC gets 250 channels signing up for it Watermarking technology

It was few days ago that we reported about the plausible delay in the launch of the new television measurement by Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC). The company has announced that more than 250 channels have already ordered for Watermarking Embedders and about a half of this is already installed.

The joint industry body tasked with designing, commissioning, supervising and owning an alternative television audience measurement system, has started seeding BAR-o-meters for testing purposes.

“Field testing of the meters is underway for homologating them to Indian conditions. You will be happy to note that these meters are assembled in India and at a fraction of the cost of other global suppliers”, said the official information.

BARC India has closed deals with 26 vendor partners across 12 processes involved in the broadcast measurement system, who will contribute to the different moving parts of the system. Notable among them are Intel, Hansa, Mediametrie, Civolution, Markdata, Magic9Media.

“You will appreciate that this will be the largest audience measurement system globally with cutting edge technology. This requires serious technology and process handshakes all over and then testing. All this is currently underway.

India is a large country and the first 20,000 homes may not also be just enough in the long run. We opted for the harder and tougher way – of assembling systems and subsystems from several vendors to offer something superior and cost effective. We are moving rapidly and soon we will start testing and validating the data from the system.

It’s this process of solving the puzzle which adds to the excitement and challenge of finally getting it right. The idea is to enjoy every milestone in creating history with your continuing support”, read the statement.
