BEING WOMEN | Women's day is an excuse to party with girls: Saatchi's Nisha Singhania

It's that time of the year when we celebrate ' celebrate the freedom, the liberation from social stigmas ' the day when we dance our heart out (no we are not talking about Holi).

Every year on March 8, we celebrate the spirit of a woman ' the role she plays in the society, the unseen pillar that sees every man lean on.

Well!! International Women's Day is the celebration of female strength and achievement, which also provides the perfect moment to rally for equal rights across the world.

It's a known fact that women over the years have had to fight a long battle to gain equality (and their fight is still on). It's rather unbelievable to see that despite living on a planet where more than 50 per cent of the work is done by women (yea it's true!!), they are the ones who are still looking to fight for equality.

Charles Malik, the Lebanese diplomat once famously said, "The fastest way to change society is to mobilize the women of the world."

We all have seen what women can do when were treated on a equal pedestal. Over the years women have made their mark in all section ' from politics to sports to corporate cultures.

The first International Women's Day was held in 1911, in Germany, Austria, Denmark and Switzerland.

Today women are making their mark in the world from politics to economics to sports to corporate world.

And nothing is different in India, where women in the corporate field, have carved a niche for themselves.

Ask Nisha Singhania, GM Saatchi & Saatchi and she would tell you that the day women would get over the gender bias that will be the day to celebrate.

"Well women's day is an excuse to party with girls," she quips.

"But a single day won't make much of a difference ' but if some people want to treat women special ' then no complaints. I'd enjoy it," she adds.

So do women get extra perks or the edge being the corporate environment?

"Well...I think we are in a people oriented business ' whether it is the consumer, clients or colleagues - and I feel women have a higher EQ (Emotional Quotient) which definitely gives them an edge," says Nisha.

Been in the industry now for some years now, Nisha's inspiration has been her mother. "My mum has been my inspiration through out my life. She always taught me that there is so much more women can do. She is a housewife, but if I even manage to accomplish a fraction of what she has done then I would consider myself an achiever," she says.

Though the corporate field is quite demanding, Nisha feels that in order to have real empowerment, she would like see women in more managerial positions.

"I think advertising has its fair share of women, however they are all at the junior and mid level. It would be great to have more women in leadership positions," says Nisha.

For Nisha, passion is something that drives her in the career path. As she puts it AE days was the best phase of her life. "For me advertising is something that has fascinated me ' it's a perfect blend of creativity and management," she says.
