"M&E industry will never go out of work because people need entertainment"

It’s time to review the most significant industry developments as the year 2022 draws to a close. Adgully is reviewing the year 2022 for the M&E, advertising, digital, marketing, PR, and communications, along with leading names in the industry as part of our annual Rewind Series.

Recapping the year, Prashant Golecha, Independent, PR Consultant, speaks about the mental health scenario in the industry, pandemic effect on the M&E industry, skills set and changes as per requirement, and more.

Media & Entertainment in 2022

The year has been pretty good, the media and entertainment industry will never go out of work because people need entertainment, entertainment, and entertainment. Lockdown did affect the business and there is cost cutting everywhere, but one cannot deny that there are lots of opportunities in media as well as the entertainment industry. Every year there are lakhs of students passing out of media school/colleges and every fifth person who thinks is good-looking in India wants to become an actor. The number of newcomers and struggling actors is increasing so the competition is unlimited.

Key trends and developments in M&E

Sadly, the industry saw a couple of deaths that happened in the gym, but the gym obviously wasn’t the only reason. It’s the overall stress and lack of personal and professional balance and emptiness in the personal life. Every actor and every media professional should strike a balance between personal and professional life. Peace of mind, flexibility, and freedom is very important for every media person be it a journalist or a PR. The same applies to an actor who wants to work, where he or she enjoys the work and is valued. The biggest reality for everyone is that we all spend more time in the office and less at home or with family. That reality will never change as everyone’s work involves pressure and is demanding because of the competition and there is a need for meeting deadlines. Everyone wants to work with YRF, but everyone cannot work with YRF. One needs to be realistic with their goals.

Overall performance of Prashant Golecha and Team

We did pretty well, we handled Dangal TV channel’s PR and it was well appreciated. We are competent enough to handle even Star Plus or Colors PR. We give personalised attention to all our clients and we customise our work as per the requirement. For example, a Bhumika Chawla is to be promoted differently and an Anu Aggarwal has to be promoted differently as well. We always had good work on television but now we have Bollywood clients too. We worked on our skill set and changed it as per the client's requirements.
