One should take it as a blessing: Jason Tham on being a public figure

Actor, choreographer, and entrepreneur, Jason Tham believes that being a public figure is a blessing that should be handled with care. He feels it comes with a lot of responsibilities and mindfulness.

He said, “To me, it has provided recognition, special treatment, fame, and credibility. It’s good to be recognised and talk about your work. Having said that, a celebrity or a public figure has the power to influence and inspire people. I would conclude that being a celebrity or famous personality, one should take it as a blessing because, if not properly handled, it might become a burden.”

He understands where to draw the line when it comes to maintaining a balance between his personal and professional lives. “Being an actor, one must understand the value of separating professional and private life. I usually don’t discuss work with my friends and family, as I value their time. In the professional world, networking and socialising are big parts of the job, and I make sure none of my personal life gets affected by them,” he said.

Jason knows that people’s judgment is part of being in the public eye. He said, “As one truly said, you’re not a jar of Nutella, you can’t make everyone happy, they always judge. I just smile and move on.”

Speaking of the struggle that he faced while making his career, he shared, “Having a unique look has a lot of advantages and disadvantages as well. I still face rejections, embarrassments, and disappointments; this is all part of the struggle. But over the years, I’ve learned to ignore it.”

So, any advice for the newcomers? “Work on your craft. Believe in what you’re doing and never lose hope,” he ended.
