Varun Dhawan and Samantha turn spies for ‘Citadel’ Hindi

Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK have directed the Indian spin-off of American spy thriller, ‘Citadel’. Titled ‘Citadel Honey Bunny’, the show is going to be launched this year and it is one of the most interesting action dramas in Amazon’s upcoming slate amongst 70 titles, which they have released.

Krishna DK says, “We put Varun and Sam in a really tough time for the making of this series. It has a lot of action and they had to emerge looking like action superstars. It is a new chapter in Varun’s life and career as an action star.”

Raj Nidimoru adds here, “We are always trying to do something new each time, we challenge ourselves to do something new. We went into drama, action and intense love story territory for the first time. We wanted a contrasting title that represents quirk from us. It is a term popular in India, the two lead characters are called Honey and Bunny.”

Varun Dhawan says, “I am just filled with gratitude today, I want to thank the entire team of Amazon for backing us from the bottom of my heart. Raj, DK and Sita, thank you so much for putting us through this. When I saw ‘Family Man’ Season 2, I picked the phone and spoke with DK and told him that I am a big fan of his work and I asked him how we could collaborate and work together. He told me that there was something big that was happening and that they were doing something with Russo Brothers. When I asked him if it was a superhero show like ‘The Avengers’, he refused to divulge any details. But he remembered that I had called and reached out to him. So, that’s how this show happened. Also, it is special because of Karan Johar, who is present on the stage. I would not have been on any stage had he not launched me in films. So, thank you so much.”

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, adds here, “No one could imagined me doing an action show. But today being here at this event is such a victory for me, because till the last moment I did not think that I could do it. I did not think that I would be part of ‘Citadel’. I am extremely grateful to Raj, DK, Sita and Amazon for really coming to my rescue. I really had to physically prepare myself for the show. I am so incredibly proud of this already.”

The American version of ‘Citadel’ featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden was launched on Amazon last year.
